YMCA North Tyneside is a local charity that has been at the heart of community transformation in North Tyneside and the surrounding area since 1879.

We are looking for a strong strategic leader to help us reach more people in the community and become increasingly resilient and sustainable for the future.

We have a talented and highly engaged Board of Trustees and Leadership Team with high aspirations for future growth.

This is an exciting time to join our YMCA.

We are expanding in several service areas and into new geographic regions, all while remaining committed to making a positive difference in our local community.

To help us navigate this next chapter, we are seeking a new Trustee to contribute to refining our five-year strategy and strengthen the depth and resilience of our charitable work.

This role will play a key part in helping more people belong, contribute, and thrive within their communities.

Our ideal candidate will have extensive experience working within the housing sector and a deep understanding of the changes and challenges faced by registered providers, particularly in light of the new Regulatory Framework.

You will be able to provide constructive challenges and insights to guide the delivery of our strategic objectives.

As a valued member of the Board committed to delivering excellence across all services, you will also lead our Housing Strategic Working Group.

Working alongside the Director of Homes and Places, you will have responsibility as a Trustee for:

• Regulatory Assurance for the Regulator of Social Housing/ Housing Ombudsman/ Ofsted
• Annual Self-Assessments
• Acting as the nominated Board Member for Complaints (MRC)

Expected Candidate Requirements:

• Experience working within a registered provider environment
• Hold a current position in a Housing environment at Senior Leader or Exec Level
• Be able to commit to working alongside and with the Director of Homes and Places outside of Board and Committee meetings
• Have strong, independent judgement and the ability to think creatively and strategically
• Networker/ relationship developer/ experience in business partnering
• A keen mentor/ coach with a collaborative leadership style
• Action oriented and purposeful
• Be able to analyse risks and opportunities and take a balanced approach to both
• Be able to work as part of a team, and be willing to take collective responsibility for the governance of our charity
• Empathy towards the cause of YMCA
• Understands and helps deliver the YMCAs Ethos and Christian values
• Understand the community and area in which YMCA operates
• Be able to give constructive feedback and to challenge other Board members and the charity
