Social Value Manager

We are looking for a talented and driven individual who has held a similar role in social value, who will join our growing sustainability team.

As a member of our team, you will be working in our £200m transportation business, reporting to our Environmental & Sustainability Lead. Ideally based at either our Golborne, Cannock or London offices. 

What you will be doing:

  • Primary lead for Social Value in the Business Unit and provide support and advice to across frameworks and projects
  • Develop and lead a social value strategy and development plan which will be aligned with Client’s and Murphy objectives and identify opportunities to enhance positive social outcomes;
  • Primary lead to manage the Social Value input into PQQ and Tender questions and support the development of Social Value related responses in line with client strategies and PPN 06/20;
  • Chair a Transportation Social Value Forum, with representatives from people team, procurement, Emerging Talent, Operations, Environment, and sustainability to drive change and develop actions. 
  • The sole representative from the business unit on Group, Client and RSSB forums/ working groups, in order contribute to change;
  • Lead author on MIMs’ Policy Procedures and Guidance, to assist Group to meet our strategic objectives and targets;
  • Manage compliance with current applicable legislation like Social Value Act 2012 and standards relating to social and environmental responsibility;
  • Foster a culture of social responsibility within the organisation to encourage employee engagement in social initiatives across the Transportation business and assist in its roll out;
  • Create and maintain strategic partnerships and relationships with education establishments; industry bodies and community organisations that help support our frameworks, projects, targets; and overall business strategy;
  • Lead projects on the adherence to our Social Value Development Plan by over seeing their initiatives;
  • Establish and implement robust metrics/KPIs and evaluation methods to measure the social impact of frameworks and projects activities;
  • Develop methods to collect, organize, and interpret data to identify patterns and trends, in order to record and report on all social impact related outcomes and objectives, managing reporting deadlines and Murphy and client requirements; 
  • An advocate of the third sector, by promoting (in parallel with Head of Procurement) Vocational, Community & Social Enterprises (VCSEs) to develop a responsible business approach which meets our framework and project requirements in relation to progressive procurement;
  • Maintain the Giving Back Calendar and develop its content to increase the number of employee’s taking volunteer days. 
  • Complete regional Needs Assessments and keep these up to date with local master plans to ensure they remain relevant. 
  • Who we are looking for:

  • Hold a degree in an appropriate in Sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility , Communications, business ethics or a related field. 
  • Have membership with a relevant institute which committed to Social Sustainability 
  • Proven experience in a similar role with 3-5 years experience and a proven track record of successful social value initiatives. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement and a proven record in presenting confidently to client and senior management.
  • Stakeholder / relationship management skills in a project development and construction environment with stakeholders and contractors.
  • Demonstrable background and specific experience in developing Social Value strategies and monitoring its performance
