Key internal relationships:

  • Head of Partner Finance, Tax Processes & Controls, Senior Manager – Partner Finance (Lon), Senior Manager – Partner Finance (Aus), Partner Finance Manager, GC&R, HR, partners and key Business Finance stakeholders
  • Primary Responsibilities:

    Assisting the Head of Partner Finance, Tax Processes and Controls:

  • To ensure Partner Finance delivers a consistent, seamless service to partners globally.
  • To develop Partner Finance systems and controls, including greater use of consistent process and technology.
  • Core responsibilities:

  • Supervision of Partnership Accountant.
  • Supervision of Tax & Partner Finance Assistant in relation to their Partner Finance responsibilities.
  • Work closely with the Partner Finance Manager to oversee resources and processes and to provide timely and accurate information for management in a fast-moving environment. 
  • Help contribute to a collegial, supportive and enjoyable environment in which to work where team members feel they are being developed to enhance their contribution to the Firm.
  • Provide coaching and support to new and existing team members. 
  • Preparation of relevant workings and paperwork required to deliver Partner remuneration efficiently. 
  • Ensuring all payments to ROW partners are made in a coordinated and timely manner and have been subject to appropriate approval. This includes:
  • Payment modelling
  • Quarterly Distribution (Beyond Review Point partners)
  • Distribution (Up to the Review Point partners)
  • Lock-up incentive scheme
  • Quarterly Drawings (Beyond Review Point partners, Up to the Review Point partners, and advisory emails to local offices
  • Quarterly Memos (including comms on lock-up incentive scheme results)
  • Preparation and distribution of individual cashflow statements for partners
  • Annually
  • Ad hoc (Lateral hire, retirees, unpaid leave etc)
  • Provision of timely, accurate information for management – for example, distribution forecasts and partner cash flow forecasts
  • Preparation of monthly global cashflow
  • Oversight and supervision of Partnership Accountant in respect of their responsibilities in relation to:
  • Member Equivalent Drawings & Current Account Reconciliations
  • Individual Cashflow Forecasts and Current Account Statements 
  • Sundry Debtor Reconciliation 
  • FX & system currency Journals
  • Payment Schedule for Banking
  • Provision of partner statistics to stakeholders
  • Surveys
  • Preparation of loan notes
  • Provision of information to Tax Reporting, Processes & Control team for UK tax computation in relation to unpaid salaries
  • Budget
  • Partner secondment allowances
  • Primrose Street protocol – fund calculation
  • Partner recharges
  • IT Equipment
  • Car Parking
  • Payments to partners for outside roles
  • UK Tax Group - Personal Tax / Fees
  • Christmas Party
  • Retirements – review of any issues
  • Laterals / Promotions / Progressions / Secondments - Annual salary
  • Partner Queries
  • Finance Queries
  • Providing assistance in moving partner data from MS Access database to new HRIS
  • Preparation and distribution of individual current account statements for partners
  • Provision of information to Tax Reporting, Processes & Control team for member equivalent accruals calculation
  • Preparation of Lifeboat journal
  • Fielding audit queries
  • Partner gender pay reporting
  • Ongoing evaluation of best practice and identify operational improvements in Partner Finance team processes.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with Business Finance stakeholders.
  • Consideration of local accounting, group accounting and related tax, foreign exchange and partner remuneration issues. 
  • Key Performance Indicators:

  • Fulfilment of the Partner Finance team's obligations in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Timely dissemination of information to relevant stakeholders
  • Accuracy of information provided
  • Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Qualified accountant and/or tax adviser
  • 5 years professional partnership experience working in legal or large corporate organisations 
  • Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise
