Role Profile

The Senior Finance Business Partner is responsible for establishing and delivering a group wide finance business partnering service, ensuring the team work closely with the senior business leaders to provide insightful financial information which can be translated into effective commercial strategy.

Reports to: Commercial Finance Director

Responsibilities of the role

  • Business Partnering multiple members of the Senior Leadership team to influence decision making and contribute to the development of business strategy based on financial metrics.
  • Support stakeholders with business challenges, coaching to find solutions, providing effective challenge, if required, to ensure delivery of the commercial strategy.
  • Define and own the business partnering framework, implementing and embed a business partner model, with a focus on cost control and delivering improved financial performance of the business.
  • Drive financial performance improvement initiatives, collaborating across senior leaders to enhance cost control and operational efficiency.
  • Budgeting and forecasting for future expectations of all overheads, with input into the financial planning model for long term, fully integrated financial plans.
  • Support senior leaders with the development and ongoing reporting of an effective commercial strategy for each department.
  • Support with cost control governance across the organisation, influencing where investment and savings should occur alongside strategic plans.
  • Work in partnership with the People team in delivering the people agenda linked, supporting with people cost activity and providing financial support for organisational structure changes and cost saving initiatives.
  • Ensure all team activity complies with all regulatory standards, GDPR and quality policies.
  • Accountable for defining and improving the Finance Business Partnering teams’ processes and procedures.
  • Build partnerships and maintain strong relationships with senior managers and their teams, creating excellent working relationships across the Verastar colleague community.
  • What success in the role looks like

  • Costs are controlled across the business, with senior leaders connected to, and held accountable for, their delivery against budget.
  • Robust and accurate reporting is provided to stakeholders within agreed SLAs
  • Business Partnering function is advocated as a collaborative and trusted support function within the business, with a pro-active approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience

  • A minimum of 5+ years of post-qualification experience in a finance role.
  • Significant experience of business partnering Divisional Directors / members of a senior team, influencing and shaping decisions within a complex changing environment
  • In depth knowledge of cost control management and how to implement and track different initiatives.
  • Experience delivering transformational change that has positively impacted the financial performance of a business
  • The personal capabilities needed to excel in this role

  • A confident and concise communication style, both verbal and written, able to present complex finance concepts to a non-finance audience.
  • The personal gravitas to collaborate, lead and influence a range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret raw data and translate it into clear, concise information. 
  • Problem-solving skills, able to identify and resolve issues and drive improvements.
  • Entrepreneurial skills, able to spot opportunities and innovative solutions to facilitate change.
  • Decision making skills, able to confidently apply judgement based on data analysis and commercial acumen.
  • Qualifications and other requirements

  • Education: Qualified accountant (ACCA / ACA or CIMA).
  • Industry Experience: Information Technology, Utilities and/or Service provision; preferred
  • IT literate, with knowledge of the effective use of Microsoft (Word, excel PowerPoint); essential.
