The Role

This is a rare opportunity to join Teneo’s well established Financial Advisory team in Cardiff. You will work alongside some of the most experienced practitioners in the field advising the management teams, lenders and shareholders of corporates that are underperforming and/or facing any financial stress. 

The Cardiff team delivers complex, high-profile advisory and formal insolvency appointments, both locally and nationally and across a range of sectors. As a Senior Consultant, you will be exposed to a variety of projects in areas such as debt advisory, accelerated M&A, insolvency, performance improvement and financial forecasting. 

The position encourages growth and career development, with a clear path of progression. You will develop a broad skill set across financial modelling, report writing, and stakeholder management, as well as being involved with business development activities that will build your network.

The majority of your time will be spent in our new Cardiff office (5 Callaghan Square) where we you will benefit from working closely with our experienced professionals. In addition, there will be opportunities to work at client sites, other Teneo offices and, as your career progresses, more opportunity for agile working.

The Financial Advisory Team at Teneo

The Cardiff team sits within Teneo’s global Financial Advisory business, which was established on acquisition of Deloitte’s Restructuring team in June 2021. The Financial Advisory business continues to grow across multiple disciplines and international locations.

The Financial Advisory business advises corporates through periods of uncertainty and stress to improve profitability, create liquidity, exit underperforming businesses, assess options, address balance sheet challenges, and communicate appropriately with all stakeholders. No two situations are the same, and our advice and approach is tailored to each set of circumstances and client.

Our expert team also brings market-leading experience in establishing and delivering contingency plans and insolvencies across multiple jurisdictions, providing credible fallback plans to protect value or helping to shape and affect a restructuring.

Key Responsibilities

Client Service

On a day-to-day basis, you will be a key team member working on financial restructuring and insolvency engagements. With guidance, your role will include:

  • Working with management teams to test and challenge short and medium-term financial forecasts.
  • Preparing financial and commercial analysis to support decision making.
  • Assisting the production of high-quality reports and information memorandums to support restructuring and refinance transactions.
  • Liaising with business owners and management teams to manage diligence information requirements.
  • Undertaking ad hoc assignments on insolvency appointments such as realising assets, managing suppliers, and instructing other professionals/agents.
  • Knowledge Acquisition

    With support, you will be expected to develop a broad range of skills, including:

  • Reviewing, challenging and building financial forecasts
  • Understanding UK insolvency legislation and how this underpins restructuring activity.
  • Developing a range of report writing, project management, and advisory skills
  • People and Leadership

    You will continue to build on your client relationship, business advisory and people management skills and, as your career progresses, you will have an increasing opportunity to lead junior colleagues.

    You will be expected to support leadership in creating an inclusive environment and proactively support the development of colleagues by providing timely feedback and identifying development opportunities.

    Business Development

    Business development is a critical aspect of the team’s day-to-day activities and you will be expected to pro-actively contribute in this area by:

  • Assisting in targeting, research and development of project pitches.
  • Supporting colleagues to run a key account team, including participating in, and organising, client events.
  • Developing an understanding of the market, topical issues and our Financial Advisory propositions.
  • Expanding your internal and external network with a view to sourcing future sales opportunities.
  • Key Skills & Experience

    In addition to your ambition to learn, develop and progress, we require an individual with the following skills:

  • ACA/ACCA/ICAS or equivalent qualification or experience (fully qualified).
  • Client first outlook, with the ability to work quickly and establish effective working relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Analytical and numerate mindset with the ability to understand and interpret information quickly.
  • Extensive experience of manipulating data sets and preparing well-presented Excel workpapers.
  • Be a self-starter demonstrating initiative, with a strong track record of achievement.
  • Experience of writing internal and/or client deliverables.
  • Experience of using standard IT packages such as Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
