Summary of the Role:


To oversee the leadership of the Operations department and manufacturing processes, ensuring success through adept people management. This involves cultivating operational personnel to align their skills with the company’s present and future needs.


Main Duties & Responsibilities:


People Management:


  • Directly manage Manufacturing Shift Managers and Assistant Production Manager.
  • Implement Best Practices across production areas to ensure consistent operations and integrate innovative ideas from each shift.
  • Facilitate communication and seamless handovers between shifts to enhance collaboration.
  • Foster a collaborative environment among functions and encourage teamwork.
  • Drive employee engagement by integrating the company's "Vision," "Values," and Culture into all activities.
  • Support efforts to maintain and enhance the Investors in People status.
  • Conduct performance management, including coaching and mentoring of direct reports.
  • Handle disciplinary and grievance processes within Operations in collaboration with HR to ensure fairness and consistency.
  • Conduct Performance Development Reviews for all direct reports.


Manufacturing Performance:


  • Drive strategic departmental development to support and execute the company strategy through necessary tactics and actions.
  • Ensure the Operations team meets agreed-upon targets and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in Scrap, Throughput, Downtime, Tool Change, and Efficiency.
  • Provide progress reports to Directors, Senior Managers, and key contacts, keeping them informed of progress, plan changes, and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with the Production Control Function to ensure schedule compliance, implementing proactive and reactive measures to achieve on-time production.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date performance data across all shifts and manufacturing processes, communicating this information effectively to all key stakeholders.


Finance:


  • Lead the overall creation and control of the production department's budget, taking all necessary actions to achieve budgetary targets. Provide insights and solutions to the senior team regarding potential issues and reasons behind them.
  • Identify areas where additional costs may arise and propose countermeasures to mitigate financial risks.


Continuous Improvement:


  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement for both personnel skills and processes
  • Uphold a housekeeping regime that consistently promotes best practices and adheres to 5S standards
  • Collaborate with the management team and other departments as necessary to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Organize and conduct manufacturing meetings efficiently.
  • Take the lead and actively contribute to the ongoing enhancement of manufacturing processes.


Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs (QARA):


  • Uphold full compliance with all regulatory standards within the department.


Health & Safety:


  • Foster a robust health and safety culture across the production department.
  • Effectively lead the production Health and Safety team, ensuring seamless integration with the company's Health and Safety committee.
  • Heighten awareness of reactive performance metrics, such as severity rates and frequency rates, and promptly implement corrective actions to mitigate potential incident recurrence.
  • Champion proactive initiatives and set targets to enhance Health and Safety performance across the organization.


About You:


Qualifications:


  • A BTEC HNC/HND or a degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, or Management disciplines.
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification (with a minimum of Green Belt but preferably Black Belt).
  • Preferably possess IOSH certification in Managing Safety.


Experience:


  • Proven experience in senior-level production management preferably within the medical devices manufacturing sector.
  • Expertise in Continuous Improvement (CI), Lean principles, and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Proven track record of effectively leading teams in a shift-based environment.
  • Proficient in systematic and analytical problem-solving approaches.
  • Skilled in performance management, coaching, and mentoring.


Knowledge:


  • Proficient in machine-based medium batch manufacturing processes.
  • Skilled in Lean Six Sigma methodologies
  • Experienced in cellular manufacturing approaches.
  • Proficient in budgetary control practices.
  • Knowledgeable in Health and Safety regulations and protocols.
  • Competent in Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) analysis and management.
  • Familiar with effective management techniques
