Job Title: Production Engineer Location: Digbeth (Birmingham) Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 Working hours: Monday - Thursday 07:00 - 15:30 Friday 07:00 - 12:00Our client based in the heart of Digbeth is looking for a Production Engineer to join their thriving team. They are one of the only UK Manufacturers to Manufacture their products in the whole of the UK - how fantastic is that?! The Production Engineer is responsible for supporting engineering and production by developing/improving production methods for new and existing products so they can be manufactured effectively, as well as solving production problems and overseeing the Non-Conformance Report (NCR) system and carrying out associated actions.If you have a technical mind with a good understanding or production process/systems and lean manufacturing methods and a methodical approach with good attention to detail - this role may be perfect for you!Brief Description of Job DutiesWork with the production teams to develop cost effective solutions and routes for manufacturing products that meet the requirements of the design and quality standards.Own the NCR system and develop solutions to overcome issues identified in NCR's.Drive the actions required to get them carried out quickly either directly or through others.Investigate the more complex customer returns/complaints to establish route cause and carrying out any product testing required (e.g. flow/leak tests).Writing investigation reports to sum up the findings.Track new products through the New Product Introduction (NPI) handover process between design and Stage 2 production.Oversight of the QMS system & associated KPI's with responsibility for updating processes and actions as required.Working with the toolroom team, identify and request tooling, jigs, fixtures and gauges required to support post-machining manufacturing processes.Managing the creation of SOP's and the Manufacturing Data package to enable the Production Team to make the product accurately on the shop floor.Develop improvements to live product designs to overcome production/quality problems and/or reduce cost.Take an active role in Business Improvement and as necessary carry out improvement activities.Support design and customer reviews and other meetings as required.Work with Production Teams to develop production cell layouts and systems to ensure the product can be manufactured in the most efficient manner possible.Utilise Lean Principles to improve the product, process flow, build cycle and waste reduction.Train employees on the production method required for new products and product changes.Investigate production processes to improve efficiencies and reduce material cost in new and current products.Carry out audit of production processes to identify areas for improvementAssisting with updating BOM's/Routings and other product information in the ERP system.RequirementsEducated to at least HNC or equivalent in an Engineering discipline and/or a time served apprenticeship.Good knowledge of manufacturing/assembly processes and tooling.Understanding of lean manufacturing methodologies (ideal, but not essential)Familiar with the use of Microsoft software packages, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint.Familiar with ERP packages (ideal, but not essential)Familiar with QMS packages (ideal, but not essential)Qualification or experience related to working in a production environment.
