The Buying a Home Team is part of Retail Banking and has responsibility for the mortgage portfolios of HSBC and First Direct, representing c.

£100bn+ in balances, and which generate a significant part of UK Retail Bank and Wealth Management profit.

The team drives all product development, pricing, retention, communication, product management and maintains compliance with relevant regulatory and internal policy mandates across the UK bank.

The purpose of the role is to create, lead and deliver Change to achieve Annual Operating Plan, build beautiful digital customer and broker journey’s, and protect the business by adhering to regulatory and reputational responsibilities.

Against a backdrop of delivering consistently good outcomes for customers whilst maximising commercial opportunities and minimising risk for the bank.

The FCA will be introducing new Consumer Duty to drive a fundamental shift in the industry for all banks.

The Consumer Duty require firms to:

  • ask themselves what outcomes consumers should be able to expect from their products and services.
  • act to enable rather than hinder these outcomes.
  • assess the effectiveness of their action.
  • FCA requires that all firms put consumers at the heart of their businesses, offering products and services that are fit for purpose and which they know represent fair value.
  • This is an exciting opportunity to continue the work on compliance with Consumer Duty regulations that fundamentally shift the mind set of all financial institutes in evidencing fair and good outcomes for our customers.

    This role is all about helping the Mortgage Product team in implementing, embedding and monitoring the requirements.

    Key responsibilities are:

  • To provide Mortgage Product expertise, understanding this regulation and what that means to our products and services
  • Support the changes required to meet the Consumer Duty
  • Improving communications to the meet the new standards
  • Support the continuous review of product journeys and data points to identify areas of frictions and support the re-engineering of the journey
  • Management of our Customer Outcome Review Meeting to ensure we are managing and monitoring this across the team and the journey owners
  • Support Change Execution – managing change, either internally or externally driven, on a continuous improvement basis within HSBC Retail Banking
  • Help to Identify risks and blockers to completion and work to resolve or escalates where required
  • Utilise customer insights when reviewing end to end customer journey design, product design, and operational processes across Channels and/or Journeys for all our customer including those with vulnerabilities
  • Support the delivery to embed Consumer Duty including the considerations for training, communications, policy and procedures, that will differentiate HSBC in the UK market and establish HSBC as an admired service leader by others
  • Deliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets
  • Help develop/embed and recommend changes for Consumer Duty, which include improvements to operating models, procedures and practices based on subject matter expertise and understanding of HSBC and market best practice
  • Requirements

    To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Understanding of the UK Mortgage market and issues affecting it is essential
  • Retail Banking Product Knowledge is Desirable
  • Project Management / Governance Management Experience
  • An understanding of the Retail Banking Framework and its products, services and stakeholders
  • An understanding of how Retail Banking Commutate with their customers would be beneficial
  • Experience working and implementing projects through to completion
  • Ability to work effectively with relevant stakeholders for efficient project implementation
  • Excellent problem solving/critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and make hard decisions to achieve project objective
  • This is a Hybrid role with base locations being Sheffield, Hamilton, Leeds, or Birmingham,
