Policy Manager – Regulatory Policy (including Innovation Policy)

We are looking for an experienced policy professional to join our regulatory policy team.

This is a senior role which carries significant responsibilities.

We are looking for a policy expert who thrives on juggling competing priorities and is able to lead policy development in complex areas, even when they are outside of their expertise.

Our Regulatory Policy team encompasses a wide range of areas, including innovation policy.

You will have the opportunity to work across the team and lead on diverse and complex projects that help to drive confidence and trust in legal services.

The Policy Manager role In the role of Policy Manager you will lead the development, delivery and implementation of key policies likely to improve the legal services market in England and Wales.

The work will be diverse and fast paced and sometimes high profile, from considering how our regulation can support technology and innovation that improves access to legal services, to developing our policy position on climate change, to making sure our requirements strike the right balance between minimising regulatory burdens while protecting consumers from harm.

You will have a clear understanding of the SRA's purpose and approach and of the range of available regulatory tools. 

You will use a variety of policy development techniques, and strong project management skills to lead policy development on new and complex issues.

You will demonstrate a real commitment to continually building an evidence base and to the values of equality, diversity and inclusion throughout your work.

As part of your role, you will produce and present impactful reports, consultation papers, policy documents and board papers.

You will provide specialist advice, support and briefings on complex policy issues within the SRA and externally.

Working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, you will be confident in establishing influential relationships and will have the credibility to contribute effectively to external debate.

A member of the SRA’s leadership team, you will promote the SRA’s culture, values, policies and ways of working to large numbers of internal colleagues.

  • Experience of leading high profile policy projects, using robust project management techniques to develop and implement a range of approaches to policy problems.
  • Understanding of the regulatory context and how this shapes approaches to regulation in the legal sector
  • Ability to build influential relationships with senior level internal and external stakeholders
  • A strong decision maker, with ability to produce practical and clear conclusions to complex issues.
  • Ability to produce a range of documents to an exceptional standard, including board papers and consultations documents
  • Ability to work at pace to challenging deadlines, juggling a number of competing priorities
