Who are we?

First Marine Solutions (FMS) are a service provider to the local and international renewables and oil & gas sectors specialising in the engineering, design, procurement, installation, and maintenance of mooring systems for floating platforms. FMS also specialise in the planning and undertaking of marine activities related to floating platforms such as towage, vessel loadouts, marine assurance, and assisting with location planning and consent.

?The Role?

Due to continued business growth, we are seeking an experienced Naval Architect to join the team on a full time, permanent basis to contribute to the continued growth of the company through effective project execution, planning and detailed engineering activities.

Ideally the successful candidate will hold sufficient experience in mooring, quayside mooring, and hydrodynamic analysis. A good understanding of Orcaflex is advantageous.

The role will be primarily shore based in Glasgow, undertaking client interaction, project assessment, tendering support and detailed engineering work. Occasional offshore visits may be required on an ad-hoc basis.

?What will you do?

  • Responsible and accountable for planning and delivery of engineering technical activities.
  • Consult and negotiate with clients regarding work specifications, maintaining effective client interfaces.
  • Quality assurance of work performed, ensuring compliance and alignment to all company procedures, industrial standards, and specific client requirements.
  • Support team members with technical and commercial requirements.
  • The candidate will be the go-to expert in mooring analysis, hydrodynamic analysis, and vessel motions.
  • Provide expertise on technical issues to ensure maximum possible conversion ratio from quotes to orders.
  • As required provide input / support to tendering and business development activities.
  • Liase closely with the Engineering Manager to ensure they remain informed of all technical issues.
  • Liaising with Clients daily and updating project status under supervision.
  • Prepare quotes and costs for clients as applicable.
  • Detailed engineering work, including but not limited to, mooring analysis, offshore installation analysis, hydrodynamic analysis, and quayside mooring analysis.
  • Attend project meetings, project progress report, liaising with clients and contractors as necessary.
  • To be familiar with and abide by FMS working practices, Health and Safety Procedures, Quality Assurance System, as well as other regulatory codes where appropriate.
  • Ensure quality control standards are being maintained and implement quality control programmes where necessary.
  • Assist with any other duties as and when required.

?Your Qualifications & Experience?

Essential:

  • Degree (2.1) in Naval Architecture, Structural Engineering or other related subject
  • Strong knowledge and experience in mooring and hydrodynamic analysis.
  • Experience in one or more software packages: Gmoor, Orcaflex, Optimoor etc..

Preferred:

  • Experienced in Riser Analysis, Offshore Installation Analysis, and Structural Analysis.
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Previous Project Management experience
  • Working towards CEng
  • Experience in one or more programming language; Python, Matlab etc..
  • Offshore Certification & OGUK / ENG1 Medical
  • Rhino / Strand7 / Ansys / Solidworks experience
