ABOUT ZENOBE

Our goal is to make clean power accessible, to accelerate the shift to zero carbon power and transport.

We’re building and operating the world’s most sophisticated battery systems to enable the uptake of more renewable power and accelerating fleet electrification, de-risking the transition to zero-emission transport at scale. We’ve been consistently innovative since we were founded in 2017, achieving major industry firsts and using proprietary software and data analysis to optimise operational performance for our customers. At the end of their life, we repurpose electric vehicle batteries to provide clean power at depots, on construction sites and film sets.

Today we have 730 MW of grid scale battery storage operational and under construction and are the largest owner and operator of EV buses in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, supporting over 1,000 electric vehicles worldwide. In our first five years we have raised nearly £1.8 billion in funding and have expanded into other markets such as the US. Our rapidly growing company is looking for highly talented and motivated people to join us.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a Head of Group Reporting, to head up our Group Reporting team. As well as looking after all statutory filings including the annual financial accounts, the job holder will be ultimately responsible for the timely delivery of monthly management accounts, which lay out everything the finance team has been doing month to month and covers commercial activities and goals. As well as controlling all aspects of the group reporting, the job holder will play a key role in supporting the Group Financial Controller in setting up and managing a treasury function to manage all cash across the Group and ensure payments are able to be made in a timely fashion - this is key as the Group expands and evolves. The Group has raised over £1bn in debt since inception and managing this and controlling cashflows across the group is a very high-profile position. The position will initially have one direct report and will be a senior member of the team.

A TASTE OF THE DAY TO DAY

  • Manage the management accounts preparation process from beginning to end, liaising closely with the Commercial, Transactional and FP&A teams to ensure that the information presented is reasonable and commercially focused.
  • Owner of all accounting policies and estimates across the group, ensuring that updates are recorded appropriately, and the finance team is kept up to speed with all relevant changes in accounting generally accepted practice.
  • Take control of the main audit of the Group number and support the development of our end of year accounts to ensure they are up to scratch as the Group grows.
  • Work closely with the senior finance team, take responsibility for tax compliance matters, ensuring that deadlines for filings are met, and the Group is compliant with all relevant tax legislation across the planet.
  • Run the reporting timetable for our Global Suite of companies, including making sure that relevant statutory obligations are adhered to in all jurisdictions we operate in and statutory filings are made correctly.
  • Ultimate controller of consistency of all information being reported by the finance team, including lender reporting, budget/forecast reporting, monthly reporting and statutory reporting.
  • Support the financial controller in setting up a dedicated treasury function, including cash management, cash forecasts collated from team forecasts, and managing debt cashflows, including ensuring that projects are well funded as required.
  • Ensure the debt portfolio is reconciled and managed regularly, including making sure all hedge accounting considerations are taken care of and reported correctly and the management accounts always reflect the debt position correctly.
  • Work closely with business leaders in other departments to ensure that accounting issues are put at the heart of project appraisal and that accounting consequences of commercial decisions is understood by decision makers.
  • Support the Group Financial Controller and Commercial Financial Controller in setting up strong procedures across the finance team that represent best practice. Make sure that this is imbedded at all layers of the finance team with well evidenced review to support the year end audit.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure that processes are enhanced across the Group, with finance input being considered throughout.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We realise that certain groups of people are less likely to apply for a role if they don’t meet 100% of the job requirements. To be absolutely clear: if you like the look of this job and think you could do it well, we encourage you to apply with a CV that highlights your transferable skills and experience. Above all, Zenobē is looking for collaborative, flexible, empathetic people who are interested in creating and promoting practical routes to a zero carbon world.

  • Qualified accountant, with a strong practice background in audit, ideally with 2-3 years’ experience in a more junior Group Reporting position within industry. However, other positions with a similar level of experience will be considered. Experience with FRS102 is a must, and IFRS highly preferred as is international consolidation experience.
  • Highly organised individual with a close attention to detail.
  • Ability to rapidly switch focus and handle multiple competing deadlines.
  • An expert communicator, with an ability to express complicated accounting concepts and ideas to the most senior members of staff outside of finance.
  • Self-starter, able to drive their own performance with minimal intervention from senior members of the team.
  • Experience in an international setting or in a similar industry would be preferred.
  • Computer literacy is a must, but the job holder must be a strong user of excel. Expanding this to power query and power BI would be great. We use SAP ByDesign as our accounting system – experience in this would be ideal, but experience with any other similar accounting system would be considered.
