Location: Hybrid, with a requirement to work from HALO’s office (usually London, but could be Salisbury, Wiltshire) occasionally.

Salary: £50,066 - £56,366 (dependent on experience)

About HALO:

The HALO Trust is the world’s largest and oldest international humanitarian mine action non-government organisation (NGO).

For over thirty years, we have been saving lives and helping war-torn communities recover, by making their land safe.

Our mission is to protect lives and restore the livelihoods of those affected by conflict.

HALO is known for its work to clear landmines, but we also lead on dealing with unexploded ordnance, from bullets to aircraft bombs, and we educate communities to keep them safe.

In addition, we build safe arms stores and systems for securing guns.

HALO was established in Afghanistan in 1988 and now employs over 12,000 staff in 30 countries and territories.

About the role:

We’re looking for an unremittingly data-driven Digital Marketing Manager to drive the continual improvement of how we engage and grow our community through digital marketing activities.

An expert in digital advertising and email marketing, you’ll have the drive and attention to detail to be optimising constantly to make sure our digital marketing delivers the best possible results.

We’re in the process of defining our digital strategy and there’s much more we want to do to achieve three key aims:

  • position HALO as the leading NGO tackling the causes and consequences of conflict
  • build the HALO brand, prioritising the US and Europe
  • bring strategic creativity to our fundraising efforts (in particular, individual giving) and support stewardship of government and philanthropic partners.
  • This role will make sure our digital marketing fulfills its potential in helping us meet these aims.

The key focus is digital engagement – you’ll be responsible for increasing reach and driving response.

You’ll manage our search advertising, using data to optimise constantly and test different approaches to improve performance.

Alongside this, you’ll plan and deliver high-impact email marketing activity, from lead generation and conversion to retention and reactivation.

Reporting to the Head of Digital Platforms, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing digital team and play a key role in transforming the way we communicate with our external audiences.

    Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Head of Digital Platforms to develop an audience-led digital marketing strategy that aligns to our communications strategy
  • Work in collaboration with the Content team, who are responsible for developing HALO’s website, social and email content; provide insights to ensure maxmimised performance of the content developed
  • Hands-on management and optimisation of digital marketing, including A/B testing, using data to make decisions and recommendations on when to increase or reduce our expenditure.
  • SEM
  • Lead and manage our Google Ads (Ad Grant and paid)
  • Ensure our Ad Grant ad groups are updated regularly in line with organisational priorities and the available spend is maximised
  • Design and deliver paid advertising campaigns (set-up, monitoring, tweaking based on performance, pausing)
  • Explore additional SEM opportunities
  • Email
  • Lead and manage our email programme, including advising content producers on how to create engaging, relevant and impactful content
  • Maintain an overarching schedule of all planned marketing emails to ensure that our email programme is organised, consistent and delivers the right messages to the right audiences at the right times
  • Map the supporter email journey from point of acquisition through to retention and reactivation; build, manage and optimise email journeys using automation and journey-building tools
  • Coordinate production of regular e-newsletters, ensuring input from teams across the organisation
  • Maintain our email templates
  • Plan data selections, prepare campaign lists and set up data integrations, ensuring customer data is always handled according to data protection good practice
  • SMM
  • Support the Social Media Manager to deliver paid social media advertising
  • Develop a good understanding of how digital marketing fits into our wider digital work and contribute to an operational plan for how all these digital components can be best optimised to work together, including our website, SEO and organic social media
  • Develop relationships with key teams at HALO, understanding their priorities and supporting them to use digital marketing to meet their objectives
  • Provide strategic digital marketing insight and analysis to comms and fundraising teams; develop and optimise digital marketing plans
  • Provide support and consultancy to enable fundraising teams to drive forward the income potential and engagement of fundraising campaigns
  • Implement improvements for enhancing data collection and ensure our reporting and analysis through improved tracking and behavioural analysis
  • Lead on devising, implementing and monitoring a range of test activities that will enable us to learn more about how best to engage our supporters and other stakeholders
  • Design, implement and maintain a suite of digital reports; provide timely and relevant business intelligence; support evaluations of our digital marketing activity
  • Keep up to date with online marketing trends including those in the fundraising sector, scoping opportunities for testing and trying new ideas
