(KUSCO) who that provides maintenance services, both planned and reactive, for the properties belonging to or occupied by to the University.General Maintenance Assistant – The Role:The Post Holder will carry out necessary maintenance tasks to ensure the safe and continuous operation of system, plant and equipment and fabric within Kingston University’s estate. To undertake specific diagnostic, maintenance and repair tasks across a wide range of interconnected plant and equipment and building fabric.A key element of the post is generic working. The post holder may be working towards a recognised trade (e.g., electrical, mechanical, plumbing, H&V or building related) this may be by appropriate qualification, apprenticeship or in some circumstances experience. However, he / she will be asked to work outside of this trade. Full training will be given, and the post holder will not be asked to work outside his/her competencies.The post holder will be required to work a rota and may be asked to work between the hours of 7:00 to 19:00 Monday – Friday.Tasks and Responsibilities:• Carry out routine building, engineering work unsupervised and within their capabilities as directed by the Supervisor or Campus Services Manager• Work alongside qualified Trades persons across the full range of their duties and demonstrate their ability to work in a multi-task environment using a flexible approach to perform a wide range of tasks• The cleaning of plant and equipment, workshops, stores and plant rooms• Carry out PPM work including checking, testing and information gathering• Competent in the use of all hand and power tools, measuring instruments and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works• Be prepared to work in hazardous areas, confined spaces and on contaminated equipment using appropriate personal protective equipment• Carry out own daily individual administration of work, by closing responsive maintenance jobs or noting follow on works required• Be able to utilize relevant software systems including the use of PDAs, the PLANON maintenance system, the BMS, work permit system and the ordering system• Participate in the emergency ‘on call’ rota• To assist with emergency work as and when requested, including out of normal working hoursGeneral Maintenance Assistant - Requirements:• You will be required to drive between sites, and you therefore must hold a valid full driver’s licence.• Required NVQ level 2 qualification or equivalent in engineering or building maintenance• Required - City & Guilds Certificate or equivalent in a building trade• Working towards full Trades qualification• Desirable - IOSH 5 years’ experience as a semi-skilled generic tradesperson• General understanding of the maintenance of buildings and engineering services• Carpentry, plumbing, Decorating and general building skills• Good computer skills• Able to work under pressure and to deadlines• Good communication - written and oral• Health and Safety awareness trained• Trained on Legionella, Asbestos awareness and working at height• Ability to use BMS system to download work orders and record detailed and accurate repair information• Basic knowledge of permit to work system• Experience of working within a customer-focused repairs and maintenance service• Experience of working in a team, within a commercial environment• Experience of working with a range of portable tools, small plant, ladders and equipment to enable duties of the job to be carried out• Able to carry out a repair job or improvement task that involves physical strength, stamina and standing, kneeling or crouchingAs the duties of the post change and develop the job description will be reviewed and will be subject to amendment, in consultation with the post holder.If you feel you have the skills and experience, along with the necessary SIA and Driving licence, to be considered for this role, click on apply today forwarding an up-to-date copy of your CV for consideration in the first instance.No agencies please
