The Role:

The UK Finance team is responsible for all finance tasks relating to Hannover Re’s UK reinsurance branch as well as three UK holdings and services companies. The Finance responsibilities are broad and include technical accounting, financial accounting, accounts payable, banking, treasury, investment management, tax, external and group reporting, performance management, management reporting and planning.

This role will combine hands-on accounting and finance expertise with a holistic process improvement mindset to play a pivotal part in driving process improvements and implementing best practices within the finance department. The role will work with the UK Finance team on process improvements relating to all responsibilities listed above.

The Financial Accountant will proactively implement robust and efficient processes and controls, redesign internal reporting processes and internal management reporting packages, ensuring that they are fully documented and embedded into business as usual. While this role will focus on continuous improvements locally, the role may also contribute to wider enterprise projects from the UK Finance perspective.

The successful candidate may also use your financial accounting and reporting experience to provide capacity to the team during busy periods or to provide cover to the team during planned absences.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop expense reporting packs by proactively identifying managements’ requirements and improving upstream processes and controls supporting expense management.
  • Improve the IFRS management reporting by streamlining, integrating, or eliminating existing processes and utilising strong stakeholder management skills to ensure that a simplified and robust process in implemented.
  • Enhance the UK tax computation process, ensuring that source information is clear, resulting journals are automatically generated and appropriate controls are in place.
  • Review legacy retrocession processes, collaborating with local and group colleagues to implement a sustainable and controlled process and resolve legacy issues.
  • Engage with Group Finance on rolling out enterprise projects relating to topics such as cash management, invoicing and accounts payable, solvency reporting and other finance initiatives to the UK.
  • When required, support the financial close processes of the Branch through the coordination of reporting inputs from both the actuarial and accounting functions into Group and local reporting deliveries.
  • Enhance cashflow forecasting processes to ensure appropriate investment decisions can be made.
  • Build and streamline control and governance processes including balance sheet reconciliations and timetables.
  • Collaborate with the UK Finance team and its internal stakeholders to identify and implement process or control improvements for the UK Finance team.
  • About You

    Qualifications Required:

  • Qualified accountant (CA, ACA, ACCA)
  • Experience:

  • Delivering finance process change or optimisation.
  • Management reporting and senior stakeholder management experience.
  • UK statutory accounting, tax and financial reporting processes.
  • IFRS knowledge.
  • Highly skilled using MS Excel.
  • Experience with Power BI, MicroStrategy an advantage.
  • Experience using SAP GL, Concur, LucaNet, Tagetik an advantage.
