Financial Accountant in Edinburgh

Robert Half is partnering with Hindles, looking to appoint an experienced Financial Accountant based in their Edinburgh office.

Hindles is a leading specialist in patents, trade marks, and intellectual property. With offices across Scotland and England, Hindles has an international reach present clients directly before the European Patent Office, the UK Intellectual Property Office and the World Intellectual Property Office, and through attorneys in over 100 countries around the world. Their clients vary from start-ups to large listed companies, public sector bodies, and to higher education.

This is a newly created role reporting directly to the CEO, and has arisen due to the recent growth and as part of the company growth strategy. The position can be considered for either full-time or part-time (pro-rata).

Responsibilities of Financial Accountant:

• Manage financial reporting, budgeting, and accounting functions, ensuring accurate and timely financial records.
• Quarterly and Monthly Management Accounts.
• Monthly review of the Profit & Loss Account with detailed cost & revenue analysis undertaken.
• Year End preparation.
• VAT return preparation and submission.
• Monitor day-to-day finances including the reconciliation of financial transactions against bank statements.
• Daily book-keeping, supported by bank feeds and invoice processing software.
• Daily communications on financial queries from internal and external stakeholders.
• Monitor accounts receivable, produce daily reports and perform credit control activities.
• Accounts payable management and bank approvals.
• Engaging in process improvement projects.
• Pension management.

Requirements

• Qualified accountant (ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, other relevant) or qualified by experience
• 5+ years of experience within finance function of a professional services environment (e.g., lawyers, accountants, architects, management consultants, other similar)
• Strong technical skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Able to work autonomously and take initiative
