Description

As our next Environmental Coordinator you will play an integral part of the Operational Team within the Cement GB business. 

Based at Hope Cement Works but with overarching responsibility for the associated depots and import terminals, the Environmental coordinator carries out a broad range of tasks to help the business reduce its overall impact on the environment, engage with the workforce at all levels, comply with relevant legislation, and ensure continuous improvement. In addition, the role will support and manage relevant Health, Safety and Wellbeing requirements for the department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting the management of stakeholder relationships such as the Environment Agency and the mineral products association (MPA) 
  • Ensure the site maintains compliance with relevant environmental legislation and all necessary reporting requirements are adhered too for both internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Be familiar with site permits and be able to ensure the necessary requirements are fulfilled.
  • Provide advice and support to staff on all Environmental matters at the Hope Cement Works site and the associated depots and terminals.
  • Support incident response and investigation processes including notifications to regulating authorities where required. 
  • Assist with the implementation of the business environmental strategy, compliance processes and procedures. 
  • Carry out Environmental inspections, and sampling regimes on site for water, waste, soil and air emissions. 
  • Identify and deliver Environmental training that ensures operational staff have the appropriate knowledge of environmental legislative requirements. 
  • Manage key contractors on site to carry out routine compliance work, consultancy, and site improvement projects. 
  • Support internal and external audit processes such as those carried out by the regulating authority or as part of ISO 14001 certification. 
  • Carrying out internal audits as per the internal business audit schedule. 
  • Identify and execute environmental improvement projects where necessary and engaging with the internal capex process and projects team to advise on Environmental issues where required. 
  • To support in the management of the local budget for the Environmental department including raising purchase orders and the purchase of goods and services 
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • An understanding of Environmental risks and mitigation processes
  • Fully conversant with Environmental sampling and recording systems
  • Ability to interpret environmental data e.g. water quality data and emissions monitoring reports
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 and management systems
  • Be analytical with the ability to analyse data, identify trends, and compile logical structured reports.
  • Competent in MS Office (particularly Excel), and other relevant systems
  • Experience with SharePoint systems
  • Have experience of managing change and implementing new processes and procedures.
  • Experience using a variety of computer software systems (word processing, database, spreadsheet, sharepoint 
  • Experience of data handling and reporting
  • Have experience of training others

 Qualifications:

  • Environmental Science / Chemistry / Materials Science / Related Degree of equivalent or appropriate IEMA qualification / chartership
  • Chartered institute of waste management / WAMITAB qualifications 
  • IOSHH managing safely or equivalent HSE qualification.
  • Relevant Environmental Short-Course Certificates (such as ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) Standard, environmental auditing, environmental legislation etc).
