The role: We are seeking an experienced and visionary Associate VP/Director of Engineering to lead our engineering department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the product engineering function, ensuring the successful execution of projects, and driving innovation. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a deep technical background to guide and inspire our engineering teams. Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

    • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
    • Provide strategic direction and oversight to all engineering projects and initiatives.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide feedback, and create development plans for teams.

Strategic Planning:

    • Collaborate with senior management to define the engineering roadmap and align it with the company’s overall business strategy.
    • Identify emerging technologies and trends to ensure the company remains at the forefront of innovation.
    • Responsible for the product engineering budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and keeping costs in check.

Technical Excellence:

    • Ensure the engineering team follows best practices for software development, architecture, data, security and quality assurance.
    • Drive the adoption of modern development tools, technologies, and processes to improve efficiency and product quality.
    • Facilitate technical decision-making and problem-solving to address complex challenges.

Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with product management, design, delivery and other departments to ensure alignment and effective communication across teams.
    • Foster a collaborative environment that encourages open communication and knowledge sharing.

Performance Monitoring and Reporting:

    • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of the engineering team and impacts to customer.
    • Regularly review and analyse performance data to identify areas for improvement.
    • Prepare and present detailed reports on engineering activities and outcomes to senior management and the board.

Data Platform:

    • Oversee the design, integration, and maintenance of a scalable and robust data platform.
    • Ensure data integrity, availability, and security across all data systems and platforms.
    • Implement and enforce data governance policies and best practices to maintain high-quality data standards.
    • Drive the adoption of advanced data technologies and architectures, such as data lakes, warehouses, and real-time processing systems.

Qualifications:

Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

    • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
    • Proven track record of managing and scaling engineering teams in a high-growth and accountability environment.
    • Extensive experience with various development methodologies and modern engineering practices.
    • Strong technical background with hands-on experience in software development, architecture, and systems design.
    • Experience in managing and optimizing data platforms and infrastructure.
    • Experience with data-driven decision-making and analytics.

Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in multiple programming languages and frameworks.
    • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
    • Strong understanding of DevOps principles and practices.
    • Knowledge of data platform technologies, including databases, ETL/ELT processes, data warehousing, and data streaming.

Soft Skills:

    • Excellent leadership and people management skills.
    • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with senior leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in program languages and frameworks such as C# .NET, Kotlin, React
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and regulations.
  • Knowledge of Payments, wallet platforms, Logistics and/or B2B platforms
