Community Producer

Big Life is in the business of changing lives.

We fight inequality by working with people and places to create opportunities and inspire change.

Whatever service we deliver to help people to change their lives, we do things .

What you’ll be doing

The history of Moss Side and Hulme has often been told in the context of violent crime, drug use and poverty.

We in the Big Life group are wanting to challenge this narrative and show the true strength of the community.

The Kath Locke exhibition will shine a spotlight on the important and undocumented history of activism in the area in the last 70 years.

Together with our partner, Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Archive and a Community Project Co-ordinator, you will have the opportunity to support a group of volunteers to gather and documented first-hand accounts and memories which show the reality of fighting for change in the area.

The exhibition will provide a lasting legacy, bringing people together, enabling us to celebrate our lives and community, and giving us a new sense of the power of communities to fight against inequality and change the world around us.

The exhibition will be housed in the newly refurbished Kath Locke Centre, which is in the heart of Moss Side and Hulme.

It will be open to everyone and free to anyone who wants to learn about the history of the community.

It will be promoted to local schools and colleges so that young people are informed and proud of the rich history of the area.

You will be based at the centre.

What we need from you

You’ll have:

  • Experience of producing and curating community-led exhibitions with a variety of media
  • The ability to engage and work with groups and individuals from under-represented and marginalised communities

What we will offer you in return

  • An annual salary of £250 per day
  • A fixed-term contract of 44 days in total, until January 25.
  • A relaxed culture where you are expected to plan your own day, take breaks when you need them and enjoy your work.
  • Ongoing personal and professional development through regular supervision.

What next?

Big Life strives to be diverse and inclusive - a place where we can all be ourselves.

We strongly encourage applicants from all parts of society.

You can read on our careers site about the actions we are taking ourselves to fight inequality and inspire change.

We actively value the lived experiences and expertise of our staff, volunteers and the people who use our service and see the extra value that they bring to our organisation.
