Your Role:

As the Commercial Manager, you will be at the heart of our commercial operations, driving key activities such as Quantity Surveying, commercial management, supply chain procurement, and contract administration. Your mission will be to ensure all construction and maintenance endeavours are commercially sound, generating surpluses that align with our ambitious business plan.

You'll collaborate closely with HMS leadership, strategically prioritising and allocating resources to meet both strategic and operational goals. Your expertise in financial management, budgetary control, and strategic planning will be instrumental in delivering outstanding business outcomes, targets, and key performance indicators.

Leadership and Impact:

In this role, you will provide dynamic leadership to our commercial team, inspiring and engaging them through effective communication of the Torus Group's vision and values. You'll manage a significant portion of our financial portfolio, worth £120 million per annum, and aim for a remarkable 5% surplus. Your oversight will encompass commercial income from both group and non-group clients, including maintenance activities and construction projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee estimating administration, tender planning, risk assessment, and financial forecasting
  • Ensure effective support for operations with contract budgets, estimates, valuations, and financial monitoring
  • Lead, motivate, and communicate with managers, contractors, and staff to meet HMS targets and promote Torus Group Vision and Values
  • Present commercial activities to the HMS directors, build effective relationships, and keep abreast of best practices and regulatory changes
  • Act as a trusted partner to stakeholders, resolving business problems, and ensuring resource alignment
  • Maximise commercial returns from HMS contract activity for social reinvestment and support health and safety initiatives
  • Champion customer excellence and lead cultural development for business improvement.
  • Lead, coach, and develop staff to maximise engagement, development, and job Oversee project allocation and commercial management to maximise productivity and maintain compliance
  • Budget and forecast workstream activity, addressing issues, and enhancing partnership opportunities
  • Lead on reporting and commercial management, ensuring risk management frameworks and continuous improvement
  • Ensure all commercial activities comply with Group policies and legal requirements
  • Monitor KPIs, use data for decision-making, and drive cost, quality, and productivity improvements
  • Manage risk within the Risk Framework, implement control measures, and stay updated on market and legislative changes
  • Collaborate with HMS senior colleagues on budgets, monitor income and expenditure, and ensure compliance with financial regulations
  • Recommend policy changes to meet legislative obligations and ensure fairness and equality in service delivery
  • Develop robust business continuity arrangements

What we are looking for:

  • A Quantity Surveying degree ideally with RICS accreditation
  • Experience of commercial Quantity surveying
  • Able to demonstrate considerable knowledge of Construction and maintenance practices
  • Experience of contract administration and contractual requirements for JCT, NHF and NEC Construction Contracts
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a management/supervisory position.
  • Experience of working collaboratively building successful working relationships with all key stakeholders and partners to deliver and develop commercial opportunities.
  • Evidence of demonstrating the importance of commerciality and professional governance in everyday operations.

Interview Process:

Candidates will undergo in-person interviews, consisting of a competency-based interview.
