Water Regulations Inspector

Location: Covering the entirety of North Yorkshire with the ideal candidate located centrally within the region (YO7 3GB). Daily travel to multiple sites required with use of company vehicle.

The position of Water Regulations Inspector plays a key role in facilitating improvements to the quality of drinking water and protecting public health. As an Inspector, you will be part of a dedicated technical team regulating the drinking water quality in Yorkshire on matters relating to the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999, herein after referred to as the Water Regulations.

As our Water Regulations Inspector, you will cover:

Inspector Duties

  • Assessment of public and private plumbing systems for regulatory compliance through technical audits, inspections, and incident investigation.
  • Participation in the technical audit process for plumbers and contractors.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to prioritise remedial work to achieve compliance in a timely and cost-effective manner.

  • Transparent and proportionate application of suitable statutory enforcement mechanisms to secure compliance through appropriate remedial action.

  • Support Lead Technical Advisors on complex facilities by undertaking follow-up inspections ensure remedial works are completed.

  • Proactively target and undertake inspections of newly constructed premises and workmanship quality as part of the ad-hoc inspection programme, raising awareness of the Water Regulations and rectification notices as appropriate.

  • Assist in the resolution of technical issues relating to plumbing installations and the Water Regulations

Customer Service

  • Provision of technical advice and guidance on the interpretation and implementation of the Water Regulations to customers to achieve compliance

  • Uphold the YW customer service promise and take personnel responsibility for ensuring excellent customer service

  • Act as Company representative and prime point of contact for all activity related to the Water Regulations, ensuring customers receive a timely resolution that is cost effective and requires minimal disruption.

  • Assist YW staff with technical advice and support, producing summary reports as required.

Communication & Influencing

  • Act as an ambassador for Water Regulations in the wider business, building up strong cross-team and cross-industry relationships.

  • Deliver promotional campaigns and training seminars to improve overall plumbing standards and awareness of the Water Regulations by persuading businesses and individuals to invest in training programmes and encourage registration of professional bodies.

  • Build relationships and seek to influence external stakeholders from students and plumbers through to customer company directors.

  • Support junior members of the Water Regulations Team and colleagues across YW in their understanding of technical issues relating to the Water Regulations.

Administration

  • Accurately record job feedback and initiate follow up work as required. Input details and maintain records of all inspection activities on our customer database to ensure audit trail and quality standards are maintained.

  • Prepare, review, and issue customer correspondence and inspection reports.

  • Assist the Lead Technical Advisors and Team Manager in preparing information packages for escalated enforcement activities and prioritise these using a clear, consistent, risk-based approach.

  • Provide management reporting information to Team Manager on KPIs and activities monthly.

  • Ensure work is carried out in compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards and that policy and procedures on IMS are always maintained and adhered to.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • Qualified plumber to minimum NVQ level 2 with previous knowledge and experience within the plumbing sector

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships.

  • Clearly demonstrates the Yorkshire Water company values and behaviours.

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Rigorous attention to detail to ensure 'right first time' performance.

You will also benefit from having:

  • Knowledge of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 would be an advantage, but training will be given to the right candidate.

  • Previous experience in commercially orientated and / or regulated environment.

  • Previous experience gained within the broader utilities, or a customer focused environment.
