About the role

This role is central to the bridging and development finance credit risk management within our business and requires deep functional understanding of the underwriting of bridging and development finance loans.

As an Underwriter you will be responsible for underwriting loans from enquiry stage through to completion. You will be required to demonstrate an excellent understanding and experience of assessing credit risk on borrower applications, valuations, quantity surveyors reports and legal's, whilst taking a balanced view on the risk-return for the business. You will be responsible for rationalising your decisions and assisting with making commercial decisions to ensure cases complete quickly whilst following the LendInvest Lending Policy and providing positive outcomes for the customer.

Key responsibilities

  • Underwriting complex bridging finance applications for both residential and commercial security

  • Approving bridging finance applications within delegated personal mandate

  • Demonstrate excellent knowledge of LendInvest Lending Policies

  • Managing a pipeline of applications and enquiries to defined SLA’s

  • Deal with other ad hoc tasks to ensure swift processing of cases to completion

  • Liaise with borrowers/brokers/BDMs/Relationship Managers throughout the process

  • Partner closely with solicitors, valuers and quantity surveyors

  • Acting as a SME for bridging and development loan queries

  • Other duties / projects that may be requested by the Bridging and Development Underwriting Team Leader or Director of Credit Risk from time to time

Ideally we are looking for

  • The ability to demonstrate a good understanding of Credit Referencing Agency reports; KYC, AML & financial crime regulation; CIFAS/SIRA; Land Registry searches; RICS Valuation reports; AVMs; Commercial, property and contract law

  • An understanding of Consumer Duty and Conduct Risk

  • Significant experience of underwriting complex bridging finance across both residential and commercial security, and personal and corporate borrowers

  • The ability to make quality lending judgements quickly and present reasoned arguments to senior management when necessary

  • Close attention to detail with the ability to identify risks at an early stage

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proven ability of working within a high volume workflow and prioritising tasks accordingly

  • CeMap qualified (ideal, but not essential)

Previous or existing approval mandate of £250,000 minimum (non-scoring centric)
