Technical Policy Manager in Chelmsford

About the role

We have a great opportunity for someone to join our team as a Technical Policy Manager.

We are looking for you to support and coordinate the delivery of our business planning and asset management ambitions. 

In this exciting role you’ll be leading the business planning process for Water alongside colleagues across NWG, help deliver of long-term service delivery strategies and medium term optimised plans, along with undertaking analysis of capital and operational interventions in meeting our medium and long-term planning objectives. You’ll also be horizon scanning for and leading on innovative solutions, technical research and advances in technologies that support the efficient delivery of our business aims and ambitious goals.

We’re looking for you to be owning the preparation and delivery of our five-year regulatory business plans for Water as part of Ofwat’s Price Review process and contributing to our asset management and asset health ambitions through authoring and reviewing technical strategies that are required for the successful implementation of service delivery strategies.

You’ll need to be developing strong and effective relationships with industry peers and stakeholders to ensure the organisation is at the forefront of best practice and innovation raising the profile of NWG, along with building and maintaining key internal and external relationships.

We’re looking for you to be engaging with the right stakeholders in the development of strategies and plans so they are supported, endorsed and actionable by operations, investment delivery teams and partners. You’ll also build a strong network of collaborative relationships and partnerships across NWG, regulatory bodies and the wider utility industry.

About you

We’re looking for you to have a proven track record in strategic planning and asset management in large asset base organisations, along with proven experience of developing technical reports, policies and strategies.

You’ll have the proven ability to use complex judgements to develop solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought, comparing and selecting complex alternatives to carry out in-depth analysis. We’re also looking for you to have the proven ability to interpret thinking to define problems and develop innovations solutions, using extensive research.

We’re looking for you to have the ability to analyse and understand data sourced from multiple systems to provide evidence base for decisions and actions, along with an understanding of emerging theories, different systems and practices relevant to multiple disciplines in fast changing environments.

It would be great if you had an understanding of the utility industry and external factors that can influence including political, economic, social, and technological issues, along with being a technical expert with in-depth knowledge and understanding of the different systems and operational practices within the wastewater service.

We’re also interested if you had a technical understanding of the operation of the Water ‘source to tap’ lifecycle and the UK water industry regulatory framework, but we can bring you up to speed on this for the right candidate.
