Role : Systems Accountant

Location : Edinburgh

Contract Type: FTC until end of 2024

Direct real estate operations Ex-UK sits within Global Private Markets Operations and encompasses funds and mandates with mainly non-UK investments. The assets are typically held within a private markets style fund wrapper such as a limited partnership, REIT, RAIF or investment trust but may also include segregated mandates and other fund wrappers. There will normally be multiple special purpose vehicles in the structure and there may be external bank debt, derivatives, indirect investments and a high degree of tax and structuring and / or operational complexity.

Direct real estate operations Ex-UK, along with other internal and external teams have been working on a data warehouse project to consolidate property and financial data from its service providers globally and automate the generation of various internal and external client reporting.

The role is fixed-term until the end of 2024 and project related. The role holder will work closely with other Private Markets Operations teams worldwide, the Investment teams, external consultants and other relevant teams to achieve our goals of excellent service, scalability, efficiency and global consistency.

Core Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support on data warehouse project implementation (focus on financial data)
  • Project support in respect of generic data and interface management / reconciliation
  • Liaise with various local service providers in relation to project work, ensuring that deliverables are understood and implemented into BAU in an efficient way
  • Work with Fund Controllers to understand the process of preparation of existing reports and liaise with external consultants for designing, testing and implementation of these reports.
  • Working closely with Fund Controllers to ensure financial reporting produced by our external supplier using the data warehouse meets expectations, and resolving issues where this is not the case.
  • Participate and contribute to multi-functional working group meetings and provide input from real Estate operations teams.
  • Challenge existing reporting processes and identify opportunities for consolidation of reports, where possible.
  • Support for Fund Controller in BAU for a portfolio of Real Estate funds like:
  • Assist in oversight of the periodic financial reporting process including coordination and control of the Funds' annual audit;
  • Maintain oversight and be responsible for ensuring fund-level and asset / SPV level transactions are controlled, approved, and recorded accurately;
  • Oversee and review financial information to be included in presentations to investors, including the data supporting performance calculations;
  • Assisting with the preparation of bespoke and regulatory reporting for clients within tight deadlines and to a high standard of quality;
  • Ensure real estate products, funds and segregated accounts are supported effectively.
  • Support on the preparation of loan covenant reporting and stress testing for bank debt and maintenance and update of the bank debt register.
  • Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience of working in systems implementation, data mapping/migration projects
  • Excellent Excel skills to an advanced level and financial modelling experience;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial accounting applied in a commercial context;
  • Working knowledge of IFRS and Luxembourg GAAP;
  • Problem solving, strong analytical skills and attention to detail;
  • Experience of working with different types of private markets fund wrappers e.g. Luxembourg RAIFs, Limited Partnerships, investment trusts etc.;
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills including the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships; and
  • Excellent English language skills (both verbal and written), ideally German language skills too
