Sustainability Manager

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Sustainability Manger plays a crucial role in leading our organisation through an exciting period of growth and transformation. Your role will see you design, establish and implement our ESG strategy and framework not only for the UK but our global offices. You will partner with the business from HR, Finance, Marketing and Underwriting to ensure alignment of best practices across the organisation. Key Responsibilities

Governance
  • Provide expert technical advice, challenge and guidance to the Group’s ESG Committee on best practice ESG implementation for the financial services / (re)insurance industries. 
  • Design and implement the Group’s ESG Strategy, alongside supporting ESG Framework, policies and procedures. 
  • Design and implement relevant ESG reporting the relevant Group Boards & Committees, including the development of ESG metrics and dashboard to be used to drive senior-level decision making. 
  • Design, develop and implement appropriate Board and Exco level training on ESG, with a specific focus on ESG regulation for the (re)insurance industry and external disclosures. 
  • Act as the business owner for all Group ESG-related reporting, working with internal stakeholder to ensure all ESG reporting requirements have been met in line with applicable deadlines. 
  • In conjunction with the Group Risk Management Function, ensure that material ESG risks are identified, quantified, documented and regularly reviewed in line with the Group Risk Management Framework. 
  • Operational
  • Conduct ESG gap assessment on CFC’s current position vs. current and known future ESG regulation, giving clear and tangible mitigations, recommendations, and actions and own the implementation of any agreed actions across the Group
  • Review current ESG activities across the group including HR, Compliance, Risk, Finance, Marketing and Underwriting teams to create better alignment on governance, process, and procedures.
  • Champion sustainability throughout the business, securing and leveraging senior level commitment and support for integrating sustainable principles into core processes and decision-making
  • Work with underwriting teams to create ESG underwriting appetite with ESG metrics to be captured, monitored and reported
  • Creation of a risk appetite statement to articulate our ESG considerations in underwriting externally and internally
  • Development of an investment policy for CFC Group and a formal process for assessing the capital coming into any group entity
  • Partner with marketing on developing both internal and external communications on CFC’s initiatives, partnerships and overall strategy
  • Develop an understanding of our investor ESG requirements ensuring we are aligned with ambitions
  • Partner with HR teams to ensure employee considerations in key areas such as diversity and inclusion, gender pay, well-being, and reward and recognition are appropriately considered
  • Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Thorough understanding of current and proposed future regulatory requirements 
  • Strong technical knowledge of the ESG agenda and broader sustainability, environmental management, environmental legislation, environmental science etc in key markets, primarily the UK
  • Experience working with private equity firms and their requirements highly regarded
  • Great communicator and highly emotionally intelligent, with strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, and an ability to build consensus amongst groups of often very different stakeholders
  • Ability to translate complex technical information into appropriate language for varied audiences from members of staff, senior management, C-Suite, Board members and private equity investors
