Purpose for the Job

The International Family Placement Social Worker is responsible for supporting our in-country international project staff with up-to-date family placement information.

This role involves developing our digital and online training tool and resource called 'My Family,' delivering workshops on family placement at international conferences, and working cross-culturally as part of an international team of family placement social workers.

Key areas of accountability

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

• Training and Support
• Train and support prospective families throughout the placement process.
• Provide regular support to our International Project teams, contributing to quality training delivery.
• Collaboration with Stakeholders
• Collaborate with international government authorities and other stakeholders to facilitate local domestic placements in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
• Policy and Practice Improvement
• Stay up-to-date with developments in international family placement policies and practices.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of our training and support.
• Development of Training Tools
• Actively contribute to the development of the 'My Family' online training tool.
• Workshop Delivery
• Deliver workshops on family placement at international conferences.

The ability of the International Family Placement Social Worker to effectively manage and execute family placement tasks directly impacts the success of family placements and the well-being of children.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain standards for accuracy, productivity, and reliability in family placements.
• Manage daily functions and support family placement operations.
• Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
• Support the development and implementation of family placement processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in social work or a related field.
• Previous experience in family placement.
• Strong understanding of child welfare principles and best practices.
• Ability to teach comprehensive assessment procedures for prospective families, including home visits and interviews.
• Knowledge of training local staff to work therapeutically with children prior to placement (e.g., 'Life story work').
• Understanding of post-placement support to ensure successful transitions and adjustment.
• Knowledge of recruiting families in their local context and advising local authorities on necessary checks.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment.
• Proficiency in another language (if applicable) is an advantage.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel domestically and internationally.
