  • Provide professional leadership to help our young people achieve and thrive in a foster care and supported lodgings environment, where they are provided with the highest quality care.
  • What does success look like?

    Managing Self

  • Support the Head of Service to provide a responsive and effective Fostering and Continuing Care service, which meets the changing demands of our carers and young people.
  • Supporting staff to provide high quality and robust Form F Assessments for prospective foster carers and assessments of supported care carers, which leads to approval of competent and professional carers at panel.
  • Actively engage in own lifelong learning by keeping abreast of best practice, legislation and policy guidance within the services we provide.
  • Supporting staff to provide a tailored and individualised support package to the carers whilst maintaining records and embedding best practice.
  • Providing monitoring information to external agencies.
  • Embedding the organisation's culture, policies and procedures in to working practices.
  • Managing Relationships

  • Supporting staff to build relationships with carers by providing emotional and practical support, professional supervision, building confidence and resilience, and enabling carers to exhibit best practice in their role. (Leadership skills)
  • Liaise with placing Local Authorities and take responsibility for referrals and for allocating work to the team.
  • Participate in the recruitment and training of potential carers.
  • Developing positive relationships with community partners, continuing to improve the reputation of the organisation
  • Leadership Skills

  • Responsible for the professional supervision and line management of staff within the operational service area.
  • Support the professional development of the staff in the team.
  • Operational Skills
  • Commitment to continuous improvement in own practice and the wider organisation by providing more opportunities for carers and young people. (Leadership skills)
  • Contribute to the development and quality assurance of the Fostering Panel.
  • Organise and chair regular team meetings to ensure the flow of information.
  • Organise the Duty rota.
  • Participate in the on call system to provide a 24-hour professional support system to our carers and young people.

    Requirements:

  • Registered with SSSC as a Social Worker
  • Car driver
  • You must have

    Practical Experience

  • Considerable post qualifying experience of working across child care services including foster care
  • Significant involvement in partnership working
  • Experience of supporting vulnerable individuals
  • Experience of undertaking assessments
  • Experience of facilitating training
  • Qualification(s)

  • DipSW, CQSW, Degree or Msc in Social Work
  • Knowledge and Skills

  • Good working knowledge of relevant legislation and care standards
  • Significant knowledge of fostering and continuing care services
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Ability to evaluate Social Work assessments and facilitate the resolution of practice issues
  • Ability to chair meetings with employees, young people and external agencies
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Excellent recording and reporting skills
  • Ability to work flexibly and prioritise workloads
  • Ability to build relationships with key partners
  • Knowledge of Child and Adult Protection issues
  • Knowledge of GIRFEC and the SHANARRI wellbeing outcomes
