Job Description:

An exciting role has just opened for a Site Manager at our Dumfries depot. This role's main purpose is to ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of transport and site operations within The NWH Group. Leading a team of HGV Drivers and managing site personnel, you will play a critical role in putting customers first, inspiring team members, and ensuring operational excellence.

Main Job Activities

Shared Responsibilities

· Customer Orders: Handling customer orders face-to-face and via telephone, recording them on bespoke software systems.

· Driver Coordination: Communicating and allocating work with drivers as cost-effectively and efficiently as possible.

· Logistics Support: Assisting other transport team leaders with vehicle and driver logistics.

· Invoicing: Liaising with the accounts department to ensure accurate invoicing of all work.

· Health & Safety: Enforcing Health and Safety requirements with drivers and ensuring compliance with site safety protocols.

· Driver Hours: Ensuring drivers' hours are correct and updated to the wage administrator on time.

· Site Safety: Maintaining a high level of safe working across the site and ensuring the site traffic plan is up to date.

· SEPA Compliance: Maintaining the SEPA site operating plan and completing SEPA returns.

· Weighbridge Cover: Providing weighbridge cover when required.

· Housekeeping: Ensuring good general daily housekeeping of the site.

Sole Responsibilities

· Return to Work: Completing return-to-work interviews in a timely manner, with applicable next steps.

· Driver Management: Managing relevant drivers and promoting teamwork between drivers and management staff.

· Idea Sharing: Encouraging new ideas and best practices among colleagues.

· Team Building: Building a strong team spirit and network of relationships beyond the transport department.

· Behaviour Management: Challenging unacceptable behaviour and coaching drivers on resolving issues professionally.

· Training & Compliance: Training and enforcing Health & Safety, PPE, legislation, tachograph legislation, and paperwork compliance with drivers.

· Records Maintenance: Recording drivers’ sickness, holidays, and wage queries; investigating drivers’ accidents.

· Driver Appraisals: Reviewing drivers' effectiveness and abilities, conducting regular check-ins and appraisals with new starters and existing drivers.

· Performance Reviews: Ensuring performance appraisals are completed with each driver every six months.

· Talent Identification: Actively seeking new talent within the organization to help NWH grow.

· Inclusive Culture: Supporting a welcoming and inclusive culture where everyone feels valued.

· Site Operations: Managing and monitoring the performance of all yellow plants on site, ensuring compliance with maintenance and repair schedules.

· Daily Reporting: Producing daily reports with details of plant start and end times and tonnage produced.

· Improvement Programs: Developing, maintaining, and executing a site improvement program with the processing manager.

· Resource Management: Monitoring and minimizing electricity, fuel, and water usage.

· Site Security: Ensuring machinery and cabins are locked at end of shifts.

· Breakdown Reporting: Reporting breakdowns to the line manager as per the site escalation process.

· Downtime Monitoring: Monitoring completion of downtime recording and maintenance adherence.

· Health & Safety Policies: Implementing and overseeing company Health & Safety policies and procedures.

· Staff Management: Effectively managing site personnel, including regular staff appraisals, and managing absences.

· Budget Compliance: Ensuring weekly budgets are met and participating in weekly reviews.

· Material Quality: Monitoring the quality of all materials produced and complying with internal and external testing requirements.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required

Excellent Leadership and People Management Skills

Good Organizational Skills

Experience with Quarry / Recycling Plant and Equipment

Commercial Knowledge

Working Knowledge of Recycling Facility and Machinery
