BCAS is a boutique consultancy firm set up in 2017, with the primary mission of guiding crypto-native companies and project through the ever-changing regulatory mazes. We service an international portfolio of clients operating within the crypto space, ranging from the most renowned networks & protocols to the largest crypto exchanges. Our service offering spans multiple jurisdictions such as the EU, Malta, UK, and Liechtenstein, and consists of various service lines such as regulatory advisory, decentralisation & legal risk audits, legal engineering, token issuances & offerings, and strategic expansion advisory.

BCAS is looking to recruit a lawyer with a background in financial services, capital markets and crypto- assets – a passion in the latter is more important than any educational experience. You will be working on regulatory matters falling within the scope of the UK’s and the EU’s regulatory frameworks, as well as have the opportunity to touch upon regulatory matters pertaining to other jurisdictions across other continents. Variety and novelty of work are one of the benefits for this role, as well as being exposed to some of the most prominent players in the industry – our prestigious portfolio of clients and partners is arguably second to none. This is a great chance to join a highly experienced and driven team, with ample flexibility and support to further one’s knowledge and professional development.

The Job

As a Senior Legal Analyst/Associate, you will be:

  • Assisting with research and crafting of detailed arguments under the laws of the UK, particularly in relation to token legal opinions and regulatory reports on DeFi;

  • Providing legal support and regulatory advice to clients, primarily under the laws of the UK, but also under other prevalent frameworks such as the EU’s MiCA, MiFID II, and the EMD2;

  • Drafting legal opinions, including amongst others, classifying tokens/crypto-assets under various legal regimes;

  • Drafting and reviewing agreements, policies, procedures or any other documents required by clients and/or BCAS;

  • Conducting business development efforts with target leads, including attendance in meetings and conferences/events; and

  • Keeping the rest of the legal team updates with important regulatory developments under the relevant laws of the UK pertaining to crypto-assets.

Requirements

  • A graduated lawyer qualified to practice as a solicitor in England and Wales, NQ plus;

  • Residing in England;

  • A clear passion and will to practice in a novel yet complex area, being crypto-law;

  • A background, including an educational one, in financial services and capital markets;

  • A technical background shall be a material point of consideration;

  • A strong grasp of contract drafting and wording of documents, including reports and opinions, in a legally appropriate manner;

  • Strong client relationship management skills, able to communicate effectively through various channels;

  • A thirst to prove oneself without forgetting that work is being done within a team environment.

Benefits

  • Working with the team which ventured multiple times into unknown territory, such as co- authoring the first comprehensive regulatory framework on crypto-assets in the world (Malta’s VFA framework), classifying liquid staking tokens under the laws of multiple jurisdictions, and doing extensive legal research and engineering vis-vis MiCA;

  • Under the direct mentorship of the Founding Partner, Dr. Jonathan Galea;

  • Training received both in relation to legal matters as well as technical areas;

  • The opportunity to work with the best-known projects and companies in crypto;

  • The ability to work remotely, with a 2-week onboarding phase in London, and a once-a-week in-person meeting (London or any other mutually-agreed town/city);

  • Expenses-included trips to our Malta hub and any other conferences/events outside the UK.
