SEN English Teacher SEN School - Richmond

A small, vibrant and new SEN school, with incredible facilities and resources, is searching for a SEN English Teacher, to join their team, for a long term maternity cover role for the full academic year.

The SEN school meets the needs of learners with Speech, Language and Communication needs, providing the very best support, opportunities and encouragement for children under their care to reach their full potential.

Other additional needs which may include ASD, ADHD, Sensory issues or Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

Students also have access to a range of therapies which supports or complements their learning.

As a SEN English Teacher, you will be joining a team who are committed to providing children with the best education possible.

The SEN school offers children a comprehensive curriculum which includes a wide range of opportunities to develop the speech, language and communication skills that will enable them to successfully access learning.

You will be part of a team providing the best education and pastoral care to ensure that children are heard and seen to shine.

In this role, you will teach English, including Functional Skills English to KS4 students, lead a KS3 English group working at a lower KS2 level, and deliver a range of English and phonics interventions to various pupils.

Key Responsibilities SEN English Teacher

Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons tailored to the needs of students with speech, language, and communication difficulties.

Teach Functional Skills English to KS4 students, preparing them for assessments and future educational pathways.

Lead a KS3 English group working at a lower KS2 level, ensuring lessons are engaging and accessible.

Implement a range of English and phonics interventions to support individual student progress.

Assess, monitor, and report on student progress, adapting teaching strategies to meet individual needs.

Use a variety of teaching strategies and resources to engage students and promote a love of learning.

Assess, record, and report on the progress and development of students, providing regular feedback to students, parents, and colleagues.

Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports the social and emotional development of all students.

Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, including SEN specialists, therapists, and support staff, to ensure a holistic approach to student development.

Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to the wider school community.

Maintain the schools positive ethos and core values.

Work closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to support student development.

Requirements SEN English Teacher

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience in teaching English.

Proven experience working with students with SEN

Strong knowledge of Functional Skills English curriculum and assessment requirements.

Ability to differentiate teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Experience in delivering phonics and other literacy interventions.

Enthusiastic and passionate about helping students with SEN

Additional qualifications or training in SEN or speech, language, and communication needs (desirable)

Creativity, flexibility, and a proactive approach to teaching and learning.

Strong organizational and time-management skills.
