The Role

Lancaster City Council is looking for a suitable candidate to join its Planning Enforcement Team as a Planning Enforcement Officer.

The postholder will investigate breaches of planning control in accordance with the Council’s Local Planning Enforcement Plan.

Working under the direction of the Senior Planning Enforcement Officer, the successful candidate should have planning enforcement or other planning-related experience, or experience of similar enforcement/regulatory regimes.

Good record-keeping, communication and negotiation skills, and an ability to work to tight timescales are all prerequisites of the role.

The work is interesting and varied. 

The roles sit within a wider friendly, knowledgeable team which manages development within the Lancaster District.

  • An ambitious district , reflected in the Council’s exciting development programme which includes delivering the next Eden Project in Morecambe and a new Garden Village settlement at South Lancaster.

We can offer a package of training support, mentoring and opportunities for hybrid working, including some homeworking and use of the City Council’s offices.

A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holder will occasionally be required to travel in the district.

As a result you will be required to sign up to the authorised external DVLA driving licence validation organisation that we use to manage and monitor our employees driving licence data.

This post is permanent.

The hours of work for this position are 37 hours per week, working Monday to Friday.

The Council currently operates an excellent Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post.

Subject to the needs of this business, this may allow employees to work between the hours of 6:00am-10:30pm.
