AO is at the convergence of cutting-edge technologies, e.g., hydrogen propulsion, IoT, marine robotics and AI. We make the transition to hydrogen propulsion for marine vessels seamless with a range of products and services that help businesses and organisations achieve their zero-emission goals. We are hiring a Naval Architect/Maritime Engineer to work within our growing Engineering Team developing cutting edge technology to use in our first marine autonomous surface ship (MASS).  

A successful candidate must be a team player with a passion for sharing knowledge and be ready to be at the grassroots of this growing business supporting the growth of a robust and diverse team delivering results that will revolutionise the way we protect and monitor our oceans.

Who you are:

  • You should have +7 years experience as a Marine Mechanical Engineer
  • Able to work across teams of colleagues from diverse backgrounds, skills, knowledge, levels of experience and expertise. You build strong working relationships and communicate effectively with your colleagues across various functions
  • Able to work autonomously (see what we did there!) with a proactive mindset
  • You balance commercial design considerations with a drive for quality, evaluating the data to inform your decision making
  • You are confident in your skills and know your area of expertise with an eye for innovation

What you’ll do

  • Build highly scalable distributed solutions for remote-operated and autonomous Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs).
  • Develop new features and maintain the end-to-end infrastructure that supports USV operations
  • Support on the design and development of marine propulsion systems
  • Assume leadership of assigned projects from conceptualisation to deployment
  • Work with our early-stage project team which will give you the opportunity to make a huge impact
  • Contribute to design reviews, workshops and hackathons
  • Use CAD (Solidworks, etc) and CAM to design, simulate and refine physical elements of the MASS.
  • Follow configuration management processes and identify better ways of doing it

What you’ll need:

  • UK citizenship. We will not sponsor visas.
  • Degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering (or similar) with 3+ years of experience (particularly in projects with a blend of theoretical and practical angle to them)
  • Experience with CAD / CAM software
  • Be someone who is passionate about innovation and collaborative problem solving and systems development who can add diversity of thought
  • Experience with systems integration and test programmes
  • Experience in automation and robotics (desirable)
  • Experience in the maritime sector (desirable)
  • A flexible approach and a willingness to apply yourself across the whole spectrum of this growing business
  • Ability to become a valued member of this close knit team

  • £55-70K salary
