About Made Tech

Made Tech is an organisation packed with stories, ambition and brilliant people. We've grown quickly and we are now looking for an internal communications specialist to shape and support the delivery of how we inspire and engage with our most critical stakeholders, our people - from day-to-day logistics to inspiring storytelling.

We want someone to lead internal communications with the same user-centred, evidence-based approach we take to our client deliveries.  We know that communications that meet the needs of the organisation as well as our people are crucial to our culture and ultimately, our success.

Made Tech is an ambitious and fast-growing business. That means you'll often find yourself making tough decisions on priorities and doing what it takes to deliver on your commitments. You'll be part of a supportive Made Tech team and culture which supports curiosity and development.

Role and Responsibilities

As our expert on internal communications, you’ll inspire and educate your colleagues on how to tell a story that people want to hear, and give people the information they need, when they need it.  The messages we communicate might be from investors, the Board, clients, departments or from any of our amazing employees.

On a week-to-week basis you’ll support, advise and deliver on content, channels and audiences for communication, as well as strategically and thematically shaping content to embed a better understanding of what we do, our client wins and feedback, and employee stories and successes.

As an organisation that values communication and transparency, we are looking for someone who can really educate, design and execute. There is an overwhelming desire for this role from all parts of the Made Tech organisation and with the right expertise and approach, we know the right individual in this role can have a multiplier effect on our culture, employee engagement and a better understanding of our business.

Critical to the success of this role will be evaluating our existing communications approach, identifying the needs of the organisation and employees and developing an approach to define how we can meet the needs and demands of this audience.

We have made a start, and do communicate regularly using some of the following tools/concepts:

  • Business performance announcements i.e. Financial, Client and Capabilities
  • Organisational announcements
  • Quarterly Town Halls
  • Monthly Company updates
  • Monthly People update
  • Slack channels and interest groups
  • Company Newsletter
  • Internal Employee Events (Summer & New Year/Festive gatherings)

We know the right person will help us to the next level and inspire our colleagues to fulfil our missions:

  • Be the first-choice technology services provider to the public sector through our commitment to quality and value
  • Set a new standard for user-centred, continually-improving software products that consign legacy products to history
  • Create positive change in society by approaching each project with a relentless focus on the needs of our clients and the people in society they serve

Skills and Experience

We’re looking for a passionate and commercially-astute internal communications professional. You’ll have a desire to connect the strategic imperatives of Made Tech to the emotional and functional needs of our people.

You will be used to working closely with Leadership and Executive colleagues, helping show them that delivering the right message at the right time in the right format to employees (and via the right channels) is essential to employee engagement and trust in the organisation.

You will have previously partnered and supported leadership team stakeholders and developed both tactical and strategic communications themes to improve people's experience.

You’ll always seek to deliver on commitments. Most importantly you’ll be constantly curious, keen to learn and develop, and recognise the value of teamwork.

What you’ll bring:

  • You’ll have developed and delivered successful internal communications activity to improve culture and engagement, and be able to seamlessly switch from tactical delivery to advisory
  • Strong project management experience and knowledge
  • Strong stakeholder management and prioritisation
  • Experience of working/supporting in a B2B/Consulting environment
  • No hesitation to positively challenge to seek better outcomes
  • You’ll be curious and connected to the outside, bringing the ‘outside in’ on a regular basis to ensure we remain relevant and contemporary - understanding current and future communication trends.
  • You’ll be methodical and pragmatic in working through challenges
  • You’ll be an inspiring writer and have great analytical skills too.
  • You’ll genuinely care for the people you work with and those who want to work with us, ensuring a great experience that exceeds expectations
  • You’ll have the ability to quickly forge strong relationships with other parts of a People team to design and deploy innovative solutions

At this point, we hope you're feeling excited about Made Tech and the job opportunity. Even if you don't feel that you meet every single requirement, we still encourage you to apply. Get in touch with our talent team if you’d like an informal chat about the role and your suitability before applying. We are hiring for this role directly, so will not respond to any CVs sent via external recruitment agencies.

Our application process

  • An initial screening call to discuss your experience, motivations and an opportunity for you to ask us any more questions about Made Tech and the role.
  • There will be two stages after this, which will be behavioural questions and you’ll have the chance to meet our Chief People Officer, Head of People Partnering and a member of our leadership team. They’re excited to meet you!

We believe we can use tech to make public services better. We also believe this can happen best when our own team represents the society that actually uses the services we work on. We’re collectively continuing to grow a culture that is happy, healthy, safe and inspiring for people of all backgrounds and experiences, so we encourage people from underrepresented groups to apply for roles with us.

When you apply, we’ll put you in touch with a member of our talent team who can help with any needs or adjustments we may need to make to help with your application. We’ve put together this blog as a resource to share more about reasonable adjustments and some examples of what this could include. We also welcome any feedback on how we can improve the experience for future candidates.

About Made Tech

Made Tech is on a mission to use technology to improve society - for everyone. We help public sector organisations transform, deliver and manage world-class digital products and cloud services. We work with the UK government to modernise legacy technology and shape the digital future of the country. We support local government teams in building accessible services that make a real difference to people. And we help the NHS use technology to improve and save lives.

We work with our clients, not for them. We do this by building multidisciplinary teams that draw on a range of expertise based on the needs of the project. That may mean user-centred design to identify a fundamental problem that needs to be solved; cloud and engineering to build fast, robust services with AWS and Azure; data scientists and engineers to enable truly predictive government; or cyber security to make sure the public sector is equipped against evolving digital threats. We manage these projects with the best agile delivery and transformation experts to reduce risk and make an impact fast.

We’re opposed to locking organisations into massive contracts that are bad for them and the country. We advocate and use open-source technology so the things we build are not only cost-effective, but easy to maintain, reuse and build on. And we always make a point of leaving our clients with the skills to succeed once we’ve left a project.

In 2008, Made Tech was a software engineering company founded upon agile principles. As we’ve grown to become a multidisciplinary tech company listed on the London Stock Exchange, employing hundreds of people, and attracting some of the best digital talent in the UK, we’re proud that those agile principles remain intact.
