In-House Counsel in Scotland

In-House Solicitor - (1-4 years PQE)

Job Purpose:

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a junior solicitor to join this in-house legal team as part of the organisations wider Business Assurance function.

This will involve working on a wide range of in-house matters including commercial contracts, regulatory issues, legal practice, and risk management.

The in-house function also supports an international office.

You will work closely with various In-house Counsel, and other colleagues in the Business Assurance team.

The work is varied, and you will have the opportunity to work with different colleagues across the organisation, including lawyers and business services colleagues, as well as liaising with third parties such as regulators, external clients, and suppliers.

Core Tasks:

With the appropriate level of supervision and guidance, you can expect to be involved in the following:

• Regulatory matters
• Keeping abreast of changes to law and regulation and supporting the business to make the necessary changes to comply.
• Legal practice: supporting business improvement initiatives
• Risk management; supporting risk management committee
• Drafting and amending policies and procedures
• Working with the Internal Business Assurance team (quality assurance, internal audit)
• Legal research
• Client engagement and experience generally
• Reviewing and negotiating client contracts; supporting Bids team
• Reviewing and negotiating supplier contracts (supporting Procurement)
• Claims and complaints
• Data protection
• Training – inputting into firm-wide programme; developing and delivering regulatory awareness and training programmes

Person Specification:

• Interest and enthusiasm for in-house work with a wider understanding of the practices, commercial drivers, and business needs of all areas of the business
• Scottish or English Qualified Solicitor - 1-4 years PQE
• Able to take a pragmatic and commercial approach to their work
• Quick learner with an enquiring mind; takes personal responsibility to learn on the job and keep knowledge up to date
• Understands internal clients' needs and can tailor advice appropriately
• Ability to communicate clearly and confidently, adapting style appropriately to audience
• Excellent attention to detail
• Adaptable to work with different people in the team
• Ability to develop strong and trusted working relationships at all levels
• Strong drafting and written communication skills
• Be aware of the companies information security policies and protect information assets from unauthorised access, disclosure, modification, destruction, or interference at all times
