Cawood is seeking a results-oriented General Manager to lead our multi-site operations within our Marchwood business. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on a thriving UK business specializing Dioxin and Furans analysis , offering a range of services for the environmental and food/feed sectors. Marchwood also provides analytical testing services for energy generation, waste management.

JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT

To lead the sites in all aspects of implementing the Cawood &EBI culture in the key areas of people leadership, continuous operational improvement (EBOS) and excellent customer service. To lead the Marchwood sites and grow the business ahead of budget.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES AND MAIN DUTIES

  • People: Lead the business act as a role model for your team. Do so by hiring, managing, motivating / engaging, developing and retaining excellent managers and employees to establish a reliable and high performing team with a robust succession plan.
  • Compliance: Ensure and guarantee development, control, implementation and continuous improvement of compliance with relevant legislation, regulation and accreditation requirements, including all relevant direct or indirect legal, health & safety and quality requirements of the business.
  • Strategy: Under the guidance of the Senior Leadership team, identify the unique value proposition of the business and propose / develop the local strategy and business plan to achieve and/or expand market leadership in your area of responsibility. Support the implementation of this strategy to deliver the required level of profitability.
  • Sustainability & Growth: Drive the successful organic growth of the business while also achieving/maintaining best industry standards and profitability. Take appropriate measures to improve profitability, including having a hands-on personal commitment to address situations where profit levels are too low
  • Sales & Customer Satisfaction: Maintain and constantly improve customer satisfaction (including internal customers) and ensure your business delivers a high standard of service and expertise. Ensure the effective management of the marketing and sales activities of the business in conjunction with commercial team, particularly through building strong positive relationships with clients, developing an in-depth knowledge of their requirements and ensuring interactions are efficient and constructive. Take complaints seriously seeking to understand / resolve the root of issues.
  • Expertise: Maintain an excellent knowledge of relevant testing/service methodologies and keep up to date with the latest advancements to maintain and improve the technical/scientific aspects of the business.
  • Financial Management: Support preparation of annual operating plan. Manage the P&L and cash-flow requirements for your business and report on any deviations with clear plan on action being taken to address the situation.
  • Operations: Take steps to improve operational efficiency by using EBOS processes, including streamlined operational processes, Lean methodologies and IT usage to improve efficiency. Drive turnaround times to achieve consistently high turnaround levels.
  • Goals & KPIs: Ensure annual reviews and objectives takes place for all employees within your business, use the annual reviews to support creation of development plans for your team in conjunction with HR
  • Talent Management: Ensure you have a clear talent management plan in place for your team with succession planning for key / critical roles and development plans created. Monitor and take action in regard to staff turnover and new starter retention to improve retention of skilled employees.
  • Health & Safety at work : To comply with and support the company HS & E policies and procedures. Act as site responsible person All staff has a duty to work in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974), COSHH Regulations (1988) and other relevant policies and procedures"

Key Criteria

  • Understanding of ISO, UKAS, audit procedures and methods.
  • Excellent laboratory skills and practices as well as food/feed chemistry and microbiology techniques.
  • Proven track record in managing labs & building contingency plans.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and be able to lead and direct others with enthusiasm and energy.
  • Proven ability to motivate, coach and develop team members Sound decision making and collaborative skills
  • Proven operational and financial experience.
  • Strong team management.
  • Sales experience – proven track record of pipeline development and conversion.
  • Customer focused.
  • Degree or higher in science, Business Management qualification.
  • Proven project management skills and experience, lean production principles.
  • Self-directed and results driven to be able to analyze patterns and trends in complex information.
  • Lab leadership experience with a proven track records of solid results.
