About The Role

The holder will be chiefly responsible for developing and improving Britwind’s small wind turbines.

Although re-engineering individual components is key to this role, the understanding of the whole system is more vital. Identifying opportunities to improve performance, be it safety, output, robustness, or cost, is fundamental to this position. To be successful, the holder will need to work closely with all elements of this small, close-knit business and influence its direction through turning ideas into action.

The holder will require the rigour and discipline to ensure that their work (literally) safely stands the test of time, but not be stifled or hide behind conservatism. This is an industry with a myriad of standards and regulations, but it’s also a niche where we are an influential player; the holder must be prepared to help write and rewrite the rules using creativity, innovation and forethought.

Responsibilities

  • Development of new products, including power conversion equipment, wind turbine controllers and fleet wide monitoring systems.
  • Continuous improvement in terms of safety, reliability, performance or obsolescence elimination through reengineering of existing components.

  • Ensuring compliance with DNOs and all other applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Creation and management of electrical installation, user and maintenance manuals.
  • Providing technical support, both remotely and on-site, working with resellers, installers and customers as required.
  • Working with the production team and designing for manufacture to develop production methods that are robust and efficient, creating all required documentation as necessary.
  • Analysing real-world performance data for fault-finding and continuous improvement purposes.
  • Development of remote monitoring systems for design validation, performance management and product improvement.
  • Evaluation of designs and production of documentation for external certification and approvals.
  • Provide technical support for the procurement and manufacturing processes.

Flexibility statement

The fast moving nature of the company's business means that from time to time you may be asked to perform duties or tasks outside of your original job description on an ad hoc basis. This allows the company to use it's people in the best possible way at all times and helps the employees to make make their contribution in a changing environment.

Ecotricity is Britain's greenest energy company. When we started back in 1995, we were the first company in the world to provide a new kind of electricity- the green kind.

Our mission was, and remains, to change the way energy is made and used in Britain- by replacing fossil fuels with clean, renewable energy.

We don't just supply green energy, we use the money from our customers' bills to make it ourselves too- we build windmills and sun parks in Britain. We call this 'bills in to mills'. In 2021, we started work on building two new solar parks, and now, in 2024, we're bringing geothermal energy to our customers' fuel mix, a first in the UK. We're also developing green gas mills which will generate 100% green gas from a source that we will never run out of- grass.

We don't just focus on energy though- we built Electric Highways, Britain's leading network of electric vehicle charging points, we helped Forest Green Rovers become the greenest football club in the world, and, in partnership with RSPB, we launched Britain's greenest mobile phone service, Ecotalk

Britwind is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to providing equality for all.
