We have in mind someone who graduated recently, ideally with a pure Economics degree at Bachelor or Masters level, or who has been working as an Economist for less than three years.

Job description

The role will involve providing economic solutions to clients’ problems. The projects we work on vary widely across two teams: Economic Advisory and Forecasting and Thought Leadership.

There are three broad elements to the role:

  • Project delivery – primarily quantitative economic analysis and writing reports using a variety of data, and manipulation of large datasets.
  • Business development & client relationship-building: to ensure customer satisfaction, repeat business and bring in new clients.
  • Working effectively with colleagues as part of small project-specific teams.

Economists would aim to develop responsibilities along the above lines fairly quickly, depending on the projects available and their workload and aptitude:

Progression is achieved on merit and depending on business considerations.

Characteristics we are seeking:

If you wish to join our team of academically strong client-facing economic consultants, the primary requirements are the following:

· Excellent academic background: Masters or very good Bachelor’s degree in Economics.

· Excellent knowledge of macroeconomics

· General knowledge of the UK economy.

. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain economic concepts and quantitative results and their implications to non-specialists in plain English for a business audience.

· An ability to think originally and creatively, using economics to answer clients’ questions.

· Attention to detail and commitment to going the extra mile to deliver robust, accurate work that stands up to scrutiny within the constraints of available time and resources.

· A proactive way of working: you need to be curious and willing to take the initiative in hunting down information and learning from previous projects and experiences.

· Proficiency in Excel.

· Native-level proficiency in English.

· Eligibility to work in the UK.

Desirable Knowledge and Experience:

  • Knowledge of statistical packages such as Stata, R, Matlab or Eviews is beneficial but not essential

Salary/ benefits:

Competitive salary plus a generous bonus system which pays on both ‘sales’ and ‘delivery’ of work. Auto-enrolment in the People’s Pension.
