Cemetery Worker in Stockport

We are recruiting a Cemetery Worker to join the grounds/maintenance team. You will be required to dig, backfill, and maintain graves, memorial sites, and gardens. Working for the local authority in Stockport. *Immediate start The ideal candidate will have previous experience of using mechanical excavators/dumpers and backfilling. Employment Type: Temporary, reviewed every 3 months Pay rate: £13.50 per hour Hours: Full time, 8.00 am – 4.30 pm Location: Mill Lane Cemetery, Stockport Duties include (but are not limited to) * Measure and mark out grave spaces using a mechanical excavator or hand tools * Maintain cemetery grounds, including landscaping and irrigation systems * Mechanical knowledge for equipment operation and maintenance * Keep pathways clear, empty bins, and remove litter Skills and knowledge * Previous grave digging experience - desirable * Grounds maintenance experience - desirable * Machine excavation, hand excavation, backfilling excavation * Physical ability to carry out lifting, handling, and hand excavation * Ability to work to timescales, sometimes under pressure & be able to follow instructions * Familiarity with the installation of excavation shoring & all H&S implications * Previous experience of using a mechanical excavator * Previous experience of using dumper/s (1 tonne) – i.e. Thwaites * The working environment may be physically demanding and you will be working outdoors in all weather conditions * People skills - You will be empathetic and sensitive towards the visitors to the cemetery that you may come into contact with * Driving licence desirable * Be flexible and open to change All our roles may be subject to pre-employment checks including references.
