Business Development Manager in London

Do you hold a PhD in Health and Life Sciences? Would you like to support a leading University to secure new business opportunities?

If so, Venn Group are supporting a London based University with the recruitment of a Business Development Manager. The post holder will be a key member of the Research Office, who will have an in depth understanding of the research that their academics have conducted and their patents, and then explore the wider field to appreciate how their intellectual property fits in with other discoveries.

Expertise is required in identifying relevant external partners (e.g. businesses) who could help progress the research to commercialisation and take forwards the discussions with those partners.

Job Profile:

• Proactive engagement with academics to understand the translational research portfolio
• Develop new business prospects, including extensive scoping of potential new external partners, establishing contact and triaging leads to nurture viable Business Development (BD) opportunities
• Maintain and grow the existing BD relationships developed at University
• Build and strengthen new external relationships, identifying and establishing strong networking opportunities with businesses, SMEs, and other relevant stakeholders
• Support engagement with third parties for initiation and progression of translational partnerships, liaising with relevant academic and professional service teams
• Develop a system for tracking and maintaining records of innovation and business engagement
• Proactively maintain awareness of competitor activity and market trends, providing regular intelligence on current landscape

Person Specification:

• PhD in Health and Life Sciences or equivalent experience in industry, Essential
• Proven ability to develop, maintain, influence and negotiate relations with partners/ new collaborators, Essential
• Commercial experience in the public health/life science industry product development pathway, Desirable

Annual salary equivalent: £51,299 - £58,723

Contract Length: 3-6 months

Working hours: Full-Time, 35 hours per week

Location: London, Hybrid working- Location dependant (2 days onsite/ once fortnightly)
