You will manage, coach, and mentor a team of bid co-ordinators, ensuring they have the right skillset to successfully coordinate bids led by our key UK-based working winning community.

As a crucial element of this role, you will take ownership of the entire bid process. Leveraging best practice sources such as APMP, you’ll enhance efficiency and streamline procedures.

The role comes with the flexibility to be based in either our Bath or London office and offers a hybrid working schedule, requiring - days in the office per week.

This role will form part of a wider Business Development team based across the Bath, London, Leeds, Manchester, and Edinburgh offices, therefore willingness and ability to travel to these offices occasionally is required.

Key duties:Bid Management and Co-ordination

Prioritise your time on strategic bid pursuits whenever possible, recognising the impact on bid spending when more senior resources are allocated to lower-value bids.

Ensure that all bids adhere to the Bid-No-Bid process before committing support, providing input, and conducting necessary research.

As part of your responsibilities, you will chair the Bid-No-Bid Board meeting alongside the Director of UK Bid Management. Additionally, oversee the entire bid process, including informed Bid-No-Bid discussions, structured Bid Kick-Off meetings, timely Bid Reviews pre-submission, and post-submission Lessons Learned feedback gathering.

Regularly liaise with the Commercial and Legal Team (CLT) to keep them informed of our bidding activity and potential contractual, legislative, or risk-related aspects.

Interview technical team members to create bespoke content for submissions, ensuring alignment with client requirements, agreed themes, and the Buro Happold brand.

Lastly, rigorously assess all content to meet the expected standard and score.

Team Development:

Provide coaching and mentoring support to your direct reports and junior members of the wider bid team as needed.

Recognise the team’s skillset and leverage it to benefit the business by allocating relevant resources to specific bids based on requirements.

Extend your impact beyond the bid team by educating both technical and non-technical staff on effective bid management and guiding them through the process.

Operations:

As the CRM champion, your responsibilities include:

Accurately recording bid progress and details in the system.

Leading bid touchdown meetings to gain early insights into potential opportunities and strategic positioning.

Collaborating with project operations and finance teams to ensure consistent fee information across systems and consider broader business factors, such as resource capacity, during Bid-No-Bid reviews

Your skills and experience:
  • Previous experience in Bid or BD-oriented roles at Senior or Managerial level (including Membership / Certification in APMP (Association for Proposal Management Professionals).
  • AEC industry relevant experience.
  • Excellent copywriting and copy-editing skills.
  • Line management and or mentoring / coaching experience.
  • Excellent computer and IT skills including; Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign specifically), Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams.
