Automation & Control Engineer

To ensure the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of our test rigs and production equipment by applying engineering principles and practices in the design, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvement of electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, and control systems.

Based on site at our Slough Head Office, this role will include some travel to other UK sites.

Summary of Job Purpose

Responsible for performing a variety of technical duties relating to the electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, and control functions of our Global fleet of test rigs and all associated production equipment.

Essential Functions:

• Designing and implementing industrial automation systems to improve efficiency and productivity.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify automation needs and develop solutions.
• Conducting feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for automation projects.
• Programming and configuring PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and HMIs (Human Machine Interfaces) for automated processes.
• Troubleshooting and resolving issues with automation systems, including hardware and software components.
• Conducting regular maintenance and upgrades of automation systems to ensure optimal performance.
• Electrical control panel design
• Liaison with Global Team
• Exploring and implementing new ways to automate the systems.
• Programming new automated components
• Industrial Ethernet network design and testing
• Factory acceptance test specification documentation
• Generation of risk assessments and method statements
• On site installation, testing and process commissioning.
• Training documentation
• Operation and maintenance documentation
• Maintain good client relations throughout the project lifecycle.
• Management of subcontractors
• Developing and implementing safety protocols and procedures for automated processes.
• Training and providing technical support to operators and maintenance personnel on automation systems.
• Monitoring and analyzing data from automation systems to identify areas for improvement and optimize performance.
• Staying updated with the latest advancements in industrial automation technology and recommending innovative solutions to enhance operations.
• Instrumentation & Sensor Calibration

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Minimum of a Degree in Mechatronics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or similar field
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in Automation Controls Engineering or similar field.
• Experience in Designing and Implementing Automation Solutions for manufacturing Process.
• Pressure Panel Design
• Proficiency in Programming languages such as PLC, SCADA and HMI
• Knowledge of in hydraulics, pneumatics , programmable logic controllers , electrical circuits , electrical machinery and human-machine interfaces
• Experience in electrical and pneumatic schematic design
• Proficiency in scripting languages, like C++, Python or ShellData Base Design – Data Analysis & Measurement systems using Oracle, MySQL & SQL
• Experience with test rigs, AI and machine learning
• Manufacturing Techniques: Thorough knowledge of the 5S, Lean, Agile, and Six Sigma methodologies for continuous improvement and high-quality output.
• Project Management: Solid skills in using Microsoft Projects to create Gantt charts and timing diagrams
• Experience with project management
• Solid understanding of computer programming and software development
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment and perform complex system tests.
