To plan and lead the successful delivery of a programme of works being delivered by an ‘Area Delivery Team’ made up of the client’s partners and contractors in accordance with their corporate values and following requirements: Health and Safety Strategy - Personnel Safety, Process Safety and Health and Wellbeing, Target Operating Model - System Thinking, Situational Awareness and Production Line Thinking and Outcomes - Regulatory, Customer and Resilience.

To be the interface between the Area Delivery Team and the business at a senior level and will be required to manage internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of the Capital programme in line with their business strategy.

Our client is one of the largest water companies in the UK, responsible for water and wastewater services in the northwest of England.

  • You will lead the delivery of key assignments and defined business areas, providing strategic direction and monitoring delivery aligned with overall vision and objectives. 

  • You will direct preparation of contract documents, warranties, bonds and licenses to achieve formal execution by appropriate parties.

  • You will proactively identify costing associated with design changes, contract awards, construction activities and client charges, and present these to clients.

  • Accountability for all aspects of the delivery service within the Capital Programme and team

  • Lead a direct team of c30 people and indirectly manage > 50 people

  • Manage the Gross Working Expenditure for the area to set targets

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team to deliver investment programmes of circa £100m per annum

  • Lead and mentor a team of Programme Delivery professionals ensuring delivery to TCQi and ensuring safe delivery whilst maximising efficiencies and achieving business objectives

  • Develop, promote and maintain a safety culture to deliver excellent Health and Safety performance.

  • Develop strong relationships with the leadership team to ensure the service being offered meets the Client expectations.

  • Manage risks and changes at programme level and escalate issues affecting programme / project delivery.

  • Develop and maintain resource plans to ensure appropriate resources are in place to deliver the workload.

  • Review area performance, take appropriate action as necessary and report back to the Capital Delivery director and other executives on a monthly basis.

  • Ensure compliance with corporate governance.

  • Work with key stakeholders e.g. PMO to define the Portfolio of Projects to be delivered.

  • Manage the relationship with the Supply Chain to successfully deliver projects and act as an escalation point for any issues arising from the performance of the contract

  • Develop and implement an internal and external stakeholder management and escalation plan for the programme of work.

  • Produce a commercial, programme and quality assurance plan for the programme of work in accordance with UU’s processes and monitor compliance working closely with the PMO / Assurance team.

  • Delivery of the projects within the programme area to TCQ targets.

  • You’ll need to have: 

  • Ability to operate at a strategic and programme level to deliver the business objectives and outcomes

  • Significant leadership and people management skills and an ability to build and develop high performing teams from across the client organisation and external organisations and coach and mentor as appropriate

  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills

  • Flexibility and adaptability to be able to respond rapidly to unexpected events, having the ability to develop creative solutions to problems

  • Solid commercial, financial and analytical skills

  • Delivery of key targets and objectives within the limits of available resources

  • Proven track record of managing different contractual arrangements

  • Degree (or equivalent qualification or level of experience) level and ideally professionally qualified (e.g. CEng, MICE, MCIOB)

  • Preferably APM P Qualification (Practitioner Level)

  • Working towards membership of Association for Project Management (MAPM)

  • Knowledge, understanding and application of the APM competency framework.

  • NEC3/4 qualified

  • Proven track record of delivery of project portfolios

  • Digitally savvy, can build lasting client relationships and lead strong, motivated teams.
