Reading ASC Centre is a purpose-built centre in the grounds of Reading College.

We have two large classrooms, a kitchen, quiet room and our own garden.

Students access the ASC Centre as their main base to access a full time preparing for adulthood curriculum or students enrolled to a course in the main college building access the ASC Centre outside of their main lesson for study time, access to therapies and during breaks.

About the role

The successful applicant’s will be supporting students with Autism and other associated difficulties on courses which are designed for those with Autism and associated difficulties or supporting students to access their course.

These courses are from Foundation Level 1 courses to Level 3 courses.

There will be an expectation to support in all areas.

You will be responsible for facilitating individual learning programmes, providing support to our learners in small groups and 1-1 activities when attending the ASC Centres.

You will be required to facilitate the students learning using creative and purposeful lesson planning in collaboration with the ASC Coordinators to meet the needs of the learners.

You may also be required to support learners to access learning on their course within the mainstream learning environment and off-site activities.

Personal care can form part of the duties included in this role and training will be provided.

We have a variety of working patterns available, including full time, part time and fixed term contracts based at Reading College. 

The hourly rate offered for these positions is from £10.

66 - £11.

65ph depending on skills and experience.

(Term time only salary calculator - your pay will be based on your working hours per week, multiplied by the number of weeks worked, plus 6 weeks holiday and will be spread equally over 12 months).

What do you need to be a successful Learning Support Assistant at Activate Learning?

This is a challenging role that requires resilience, motivation, initiative and patience.

You will be able to provide support to students with Autism and associated difficulties.

You will have good communication skills to be able to work with tutors to ensure the delivery of an effective programme of further education and to work as part of a co-ordination team. 

A qualification in Autism or other associated difficulties is not essential but a willingness to learn about Autism and the other difficulties a young person may experience is essential.
