Neo Environmental, an award-winning planning and environmental consultancy, have an exciting opportunity for an Archaeology and Heritage Consultant to be based out of our Ballymena office or from within Ireland and work on a broad variety of projects.

The position will offer the right individual the opportunity to work for a well-established and growing planning and environmental consultancy.


The role will primarily involve supporting the Archaeology and Heritage department within Northern Ireland and Ireland, as well as the wider environmental services team, through the production of archaeology and architectural heritage impact assessments, environmental impact assessment chapters, feasibility studies, fieldwork reports and other documents as required.

The role will also include the management of ongoing fieldwork such as geophysical surveys, excavations, test trenching programmes, watching briefs and other archaeological fieldwork as required.

However, no Irish archaeological licence is required.


Candidates will have demonstrable post graduate experience within commercial archaeology and should have a high standard of report writing, communication and analytical skills.

A full driving licence, including own transport, is essential as the role will involve site visits and walkover surveys.


Duties

  • Producing archaeology and architectural heritage impact assessments , EIA chapters, feasibility studies, fieldwork reports, and other documents as required, in relation to projects within both Ireland and Northern Ireland;
  • Liaising and communicating effectively with team members, clients, local authorities and sub-contractors;
  • Advising the environmental team and clients regarding archaeology/heritage within planning and development design;
  • Producing quotes and managing the financial aspect of projects; and
  • Managing and/or assisting in fieldwork duties when necessary (e.g. walkover surveys, watching briefs, evaluations, excavations).


Essential Criteria

  • Degree in archaeology or related subject;
  • Excellent report writing skills;
  • Technically competent and willing to learn and use GIS;
  • Highly motivated and able to work by themselves and within a team;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; and
  • Full driving licence and own transport.


Desirable Criteria

  • Good knowledge of general archaeology within Ireland and Northern Ireland;
  • Familiarity with GIS;
  • Experience with producing formal reports and/or input to planning applications;
  • Post graduate qualification in a heritage, archaeology or planning discipline; and
  • Membership of IAI.
