Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) is the UK’s largest pension scheme by assets, with £90.8bn under management (31 March 2022), dedicated to providing retirement benefits to more than 500,000 members across 330 institutions in the higher education sector. USS was established in 1974, a corporate trustee responsible for administering both defined (DB) and other benefits and defined contributions (DC) pensions. It has offices in Liverpool and London.

Our dedicated in-house investment team, USS Investment Management Limited, manages the majority of USS’ assets – including £28bn in private market investments.

Through engagement, voting and stewardship, we use our influence as a major institutional investor to promote good ESG practices.
