We are currently recruiting for a Landfill Manager to join and lead our fantastic team at our Tyttenhanger Landfill site, located close to St Albans in Hertfordshire. The site is easily accessible from St Albans, Hatfield, Potters Bar, Radlett, Borehamwood, Barnet, Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Harpenden, Hertford, Luton, Dunstable, Stevenage, Welwyn Garden City, Waltham Abbey, Harlow, Waltham Cross, Enfield, New Barnet and surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility

The Landfill Manager role here at Tyttenhanger will manage the environmental, safety and operational standards which are key in the fundamentals of the role for the Landfill site, with cost control, contractor management and performance improvement being high. Managing site compliance with business policies and procedures and ensuring that legislative compliance is also a strong aspect of the role.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities of the role , not exhaustive:

  • Experienced in both the Landfill/Recycling and Quarrying sector of industry
  • Responsible for managing, coach and developing a highly motivated team to ensure business continuity and reduce business risk
  • You will support change and continuous improvement initiatives and producing operational reports
  • Maintaining and implementing existing and new, Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments and training your staff on the same
  • Reporting and investigating any unsafe or hazardous working practices
  • Issue of safety briefings and toolbox talks to your operational team
  • Collate and report on monthly performance KPI for your business unit for the Area Operations Manager and drive operational performance through KPI’s
  • Take responsibility for their own safety and that of colleagues and business partners
  • Maintain site housekeeping to a high standard
  • Responsible for the budget in relation to the plant you are responsible for, these being both fixed and variable costs
  • Key Stakeholders you will liaise within the responsibilities of this role:

  • Operations Manager - Health & Safety team - Procurement and support teams - National Logistics team - Area Operations teams - Area Commercial teams - Area HR Manager - Industry Bodies - Customers
  • The Ideal Candidate

    To be successful in this role the ideal candidate for the position of Landfill Manager you will have experience and knowledge of:

    ESSENTIAL Experience

  • Experienced in Quarry (Sand & Gravel) and Landfill / Recycling operations
  • IOSH/NEBOSH would be advantageous
  • Experience in environmental, sustainability and recycling programmes – would prove highly beneficial
  • Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems along with working knowledge of H&S and Environmental policies
  • DESIRABLE Qualifications

  • A role associated Degree in Quarrying, Environmental or Sustainability would prove highly beneficial
  • WAMITAB or equivalent qualification
  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • NVQ in fixed and mobile plant operations
  • Due to the nature of the role you must hold a full UK manual car driving licence with no more that 6 penalty points
