Hertsmere Borough Council is seeking to appoint a Homelessness Prevention Officer within the Housing Service. Hertsmere is a non-stock holding authority and as such faces significant challenges in meeting local housing needs. In response to this and delivery against the Homelessness Reduction Act, we are recruiting to this role within the prevention team to take the service forward. This is an exciting opportunity to join the busy Housing Team who are working hard to deliver the homelessness prevention service effectively. You will be able to contribute to developing the service and have opportunities to develop your own ideas and initiatives to meet the challenges ahead. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with a good knowledge of housing and associated legalisation. You will need to be organised and methodical to manage a complex and varied work load. You will need a positive attitude and caring approach towards customers. You will have excellent communication, negotiation and problem solving skills to find solutions for those facing housing problems. The Homelessness Prevention role will join the small team of officers discharging the Councils’ responsibilities to pro-actively prevent and relieve homelessness. The ideal candidate will have suitable relevant qualifications and experience in a housing related environment. However where applicants have limited qualifications, training opportunities may be offered. The post is offered as a full time, fixed-term contract, for 14 months (36 hours per week).
