Health & Safety Advisor / Manager

Based at Accrington , Lancashire.

We currently have a great opportunity for an experienced, forward thinking Health & Safety professional to join our team and support a number of our site operations. This highly varied and demanding role requires someone who can demonstrate high levels of success in building strong relationships with senior stakeholders encouraging a collective approach to delivering the H&S agenda.

This role will also deputise for the Group Health & Safety Manager taking responsibility for driving Group H&S strategy and leadership of H&S team.

The Role:

  • Reporting to Group Health & Safety Manager, establishing and developing strong working relationships across the business to ensure all are working towards a common goal.
  • Advising, developing and implementing all aspects of H&S legislation.
  • Implementing and maintaining the Health and Safety systems and processes to manage risk and safety in accordance with relevant legislation and business expectation.
  • Working with wider H&S team to review / write new procedures and processes for compliance with ISO45001.
  • Working with the site teams to implement the business strategy for H&S.
  • Working with the site teams to implement improvement plans based on monitoring and evidence from injuries, incidents and near misses.
  • Support Managers and departments, providing specialist advice, coaching and practical support on all aspects of H&S.
  • Ensure that rigorous risk assessment process for the areas of control is in place, with appropriate review timescales and actions plans where appropriate to reduce risk so far as is reasonably practicable.
  • Supporting the site teams with accident and incident investigations, looking to understand root cause, sharing learnings as required with the wider business.
  • Ensuring insurance compliance in line with company policies and procedures which includes supporting with any claims and management of the process.
  • Working with the wider H&S team to ensure that outputs from statutory inspections are monitored and action taken where required.
  • Keep records of inspection findings and produce reports that suggest improvements
  • Record incidents and accidents and produce statistics for discussion.
  • Produce management reports, newsletters and bulletins.
  • Chair site safety meetings, using consistent business formatting managing input and action logs.
  • Liaising with all external bodies i.e. H&S Executive and the emergency services to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Working with the site teams to maintain compliance against ISO45001.

The Person:

  • People centric leader (essential).
  • Track record working in a similar Health and Safety role within a manufacturing, warehouse and logistics environment.
  • Experience of managing and working with ISO45001 accreditation policies and processes.
  • Be able to work with autonomy as well as being part of a wider H&S team.
  • Experience of using Microsoft IT packages.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • NEBOSH diploma or minimum Level 6 NVQ in Health & Safety with a willingness to progress to CMIOSH.
  • Hold a current and clean driving licence as travel (company pool car) will be an occasional requirement within the role.
