Job Description:

We have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Advisor to join us at Leonardo Electronics UK (LEUK) to work with and support the Environmental & Reporting Manager in ensuring that the environmental performance of LEUK is fit for purpose and to assist with the development, implementation and monitoring of environmental strategies to promote the environment and sustainable development. The role will be based at any one of our key UK sites but, will involve work and support across all our offices and facilities and will be a mixture of onsite and home based working.

Environmental Advisor

  • Form an integral part of our established UK wide HSE Team in providing effective environmental and energy management support and advice across all LEUK sites;
  • Work closely with the Environmental & Reporting Manager in maintaining and assessing existing environmental and energy policies, procedures, and systems of work to ensure that Leonardo’s service and performance meets legal, head office and customer needs and is in line with Leonardo’s wider environmental and sustainability policies and strategies;
  • Help to maintain existing and future Environmental and Energy Management Systems including ISO14001 and ISO50001;
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders across the sites, promoting the development of a positive culture and best practice;
  • Support the implementation of actions set out in the Company and Divisional Carbon Reduction Strategies and work with the wider LEUK HSE and Facility Teams to tackle the challenge of minimizing our carbon emissions, with particular focus on Scope I, II and key elements of Scope III emissions;
  • Assess, analyse and collate environmental performance data;
  • Assist in developing Divisional environmental reporting and provide timely environmental data reporting to Italy through the Service Now system;
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and energy legislation;
  • Carry out site inspections and manage actions within agreed schedules;
  • Work collaboratively with the HSE Systems Manager to help identify and create new environmental system requirements;
  • Conduct internal environmental and energy audits and participate in external ISO audits;
  • Keep abreast of any changes or updates to relevant environmental and energy legislation and industry guidance/best practice, and assist in communicating this information to all relevant departments and ensuring it is acted upon;
  • Work collaboratively with the HSE Data Analyst to monitor and review environmental trends to identify and recommend areas of improvement;
  • Identify and develop environmentally themed project activities to raise further awareness and strengthen environmental performance;
  • Inspire others to take action for environmental and sustainable causes. Join relevant committees and stakeholder groups to assist with site and UK activities and initiatives;
  • Undertake UK travel, as necessary, to support the Divisional HSE Team.
  • Educated to degree or HND level in an environmental subject;
  • Minimum Associate Member of Institute of Environmental Management (IEMA);
  • Proven track record of delivering Environmental / Energy / Sustainability improvements;
  • Knowledge of ISO Management System ISO 14001 and/or 50001;
  • Experience of running HSE management systems;
  • Knowledge of UK statutory regulation concerning the environment;
  • Understanding of developing a culture for improving environmental management awareness and performance;
  • Self-starter/able to work on own initiative;
  • Good at working with people at all levels;
  • Computer literate, with good understanding of MS Office packages;
  • Good analytical skills;
  • Resilience and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Experience in Electronics and / or Chemical intensive industry, within an HSE and / or Sustainability role;
  • Auditing experience;
  • Good presentation and oration skills.
