X4 Technology an offering an opportunity for someone to join as a Director of Software Engineering on an adhoc basis with a global Energy and Commodities trading company who have been going for a really exciting period of growth over the last 6 months.
This is a flexible, ad-hoc role, requiring just 5-10 hours per week, perfect for someone looking to make a significant impact without a full-time commitment.
What You'll Do as the Director of Software Engineering:
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement the software development strategy aligned with the company's business goals and objectives within the energy and commodities trading sector.
- Identify and prioritize technology initiatives that enhance trading capabilities, operational efficiency, and competitive advantage.
- Provide expert guidance on technology trends, best practices, and emerging solutions relevant to the trading industry.
Project Management:
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex software development projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and budget.
- Define project milestones, allocate resources effectively, and manage risks and issues proactively.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to gather requirements, define specifications, and ensure alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary software development team, including developers, architects, QA engineers, and project managers.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture that encourages continuous learning and improvement.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and identify professional development opportunities for team members.
Technical Oversight:
- Oversee the architecture, design, and development of software solutions, ensuring high quality, scalability, and security standards are met.
- Establish and enforce coding standards, development methodologies, and quality assurance processes.
- Evaluate and integrate appropriate technologies, tools, and frameworks to optimize development processes and outcomes.
Qualifications and Experience Required of the Director of Software Engineering:
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Proven experience within the energy and commodities trading industry, with a deep understanding of trading systems, market dynamics, and regulatory environments.
- Demonstrated success in leading large-scale, complex software development projects from conception to completion.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in software development languages and frameworks commonly used in trading applications (e.g., Java, C++, Python, .NET).
- Strong understanding of system architecture, design patterns, and best practices in software engineering.
- Experience with database systems, data modeling, and data warehousing solutions.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and practices pertinent to financial systems.
- Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
