Chevron is accepting online applications for the position Commercial Analyst  through July 7th at 11:59 p.m.

Embedded within our shipping commercial team, this role will have responsibility to analyze/model commercial opportunities and report emissions performance to support Chevron's low carbon metrics.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Emissions reporting – Primary ownership for evaluating data quality and reporting performance. Collaborate with Strategy and Business Planning to streamline processes/tools for reporting on emissions data.

  • Provide emissions information to commercial teams in a timely and accurate manner to help meet/exceed emissions targets and optimize fleet deployment decisions.

  • Analyse and model commercial opportunities (time charter, COA, etc).

  • Support commercial freight teams with short-term market rate views, market intelligence and fundamentals analysis that informs our trading activities.

  • Utilize techniques in data cleansing, mining, methods of predictive analysis, and data visualization, to translate complex data into reports and market intelligence.

  • Work with other analysts on the global team to drive global consistency and standardization in the development and application of analytical tools and digital solutions.

  • Understands and explains commercial business performance versus defined market benchmarks and profit objectives (including development of presentation materials).

  • Required Qualifications:

  • Degree level education, ideally in a numeric discipline.

  • Commercial shipping – Knowledge of shipping economics, familiarity with marine emissions regulations

  • Digital - Digital mindset and innovative thinker with a proven track record of using technology to provide digital solutions, visualizations, process efficiencies, forecasting models, and tools that add commercial value, preferably in a trading environment.

  • Critical/Analytic Thinking: ability to synthesize key risk and return considerations underpinning decisions to drive better commercial outcomes.

  • Collaboration and Communication – Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications (particularly advanced Excel skills, Power BI (including DAX), PowerApps and Power Automate)

  • Experience using tools such as SQL. Python to manage data, automate, analysis and visualize results.

  • Strong time management skills.

  • Analytical Skills: Demonstrated ability to utilize analytical tools and processes to analyze market activity that support commercial decisions. Ability to organize and analyze data related to commodity earnings, exposures, and mark-to-market positions.

  • Wet Freight Market Acumen: Understands wet freight market financial concepts and their application in a freight trading environment.

  • Delivers Results: Self-directed with the ability to effectively manage projects with minimal supervision. Proficiently organizes and prioritizes activities. Demonstrated ability to assess opportunities, to identify value drivers, to align stakeholders and to enable value creation.
